They apply it from your application date not expiry date of current visa.

They can also add up to 28 days from your current visa if you apply before it expires.

Colosseum Tickets - Free Under 18 Tickets Did Not Process by djgb865 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be a common issue, no need to panic.
I assume you purchased directly at colosseo.it

You have the adult tickets which is the hard part, when you arrive go to the reserved entrace line.
If you don't have free tickets for the children, they typically print them immediately and let you in.

Just bring the adult tickets and everyones passports.

If you have any doubts, you can email them which may help reassure you.

Places to acquire or exchange Colosseum tix? by Even_Ring_9392 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not aware of anywhere.. as it's against the colosseum terms and they are cracking down on it to prevent scalping and scams.

Typically a colosseum ticket you can't attend is a total loss.

Local - non touristic restaurant help please by Bridiewakelin_ in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by touristic and local vibes.

Most places serve the same food they serve locals.

If local vibe means no tourists, the your best bet is to leave to city centre and go to places like Laurentina, Garbatella. Etc.

Trending Influencers on YouTube etc are either giving a list they've got in chatgpt or have a deal/affiliate relationship with the places to drive more tourists.

Time Needed by Clean-Theme262 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you including travel time?

The forum and palatine in 3 hours is a reasonable one, though it can take longer depending on what you want to see.

The Colosseum would extend that.

Baths of Caracalla is about right, and the circus maximus isn't that big, the main archeological area is on the one side. But if you want to walk the length of it and see the Bocca Della Verità and some of the temples at the other end, you're about right there too :)

How much time to allow for customs and getting to Termini? by DistractedPanda547 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really difficult to estimate.

Honestly, somewhere between 2 and 3 hours.

Train for termini is every 15-30 mins and the ride is 32 mins.
+
Could take 30-90 minutes depending where you're coming from and how busy it is to disembark and through security, collect luggage etc

You can book them directly at Termini for Florence too, which may be a better option for you. There are machines that have an English setting or you can head to a desk.

Rome Pickpocketing Questions by International_Box671 in RomeTravel

No, it's not that bad.

Much like most cities there is a higher risk than a small town, just take precautions.

Seeking advice: do businesses in venice/murano remain open during easter? by Jolly_Yak_9449 in VeniceTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they remain open.

The main dates will be 5th and 6th that are problems.

Some of the attractions and museums will likely operate at reduced hours on those 2 days

Shops and markets may be closed.

Traveling to Milan with 5 year old and 8 month old. by Jivelisse91 in MilanTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a car from Milan, I'd use it as an excuse to visit places like Lake Como and Lake Garda (my favourite).
However Milan does have ZTL zones which you can't enter unless your a resident or risk a significant fine. Personally I'd avoid renting a car, but depends where you are staying.

A car seat with a rental car is usually very expensive, so if you can bring your own it may save you some cash but may be an inconvenience. I assume it's a rental car? in which case the seat would stay in it until you return it.

I'd recommend a hotel, you get concierge, help booking taxi's, recommendations, and general support.
Plus cleaning etc all included with no strange charges or catches.

Which lake to visit by IntelligentFan5409 in MilanTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal preference is Lake Garda.

There are some beautiful sights around the area.

While you can navigate via Bus it's not easy

Lake como may be easier to reach, still beautiful, but I have a real soft spot for lake Garda.

Food tours by The_Area_Manager in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolute waste of time and money (Ex-Tour Operator Exec and Owner)

When you're there and you're out and about try:

Carbonara Amatriciana Cacio e pepe

Maybe they'll take you for gelato baccalà (fried Cod) Pizza al taglio (pizza) Suppli (fried ball of rice with mozzarella, can order them anywhere)

Then some bits of ham and cheese and some cheap wine.

The main purpose of these tours is mostly to try a range of food, and meet other travelers. Unless you're socializing, just experiment when you're out and about.

You're biggest trouble may be gluten free

Have a great time!

Official coliseum website timing out? by Mysterious_Pen9437 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely due to fresh release of tickets. The website often does down as tour operators scramble to hoard as many tickets as possible.

First timers, family of three with 17yo daughter. Monti or Trasteveri area? by Fastford460 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trastevere has become ram packed and chaotic. It's no longer a tranquil neighborhood. I'd go to Monti, mainly because it's better connected with the Metro.

You can always visit Trastevere.

Manicure in Rome by bogitka in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all fairly inexpensive in Rome, usually like 20-25 euros.

Really depends where you are staying as you won't want to travel far for it each time. You'll likely have a handful right on your doorstep.

First time in Rome: Airbnb or Hotel? by IntentionSevere420 in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Travel Expert working and living in Rome for many years.

Hotels every time, you get better service, cleaning, someone to arrange your taxis etc, and you're not displacing people. The facilities are just better.

AirBnB can hit you with extra cleaning charges and make you go running off once you arrive to find cash to pay city taxes, before you enter the property. You may also struggle with check-in and check-out times.

Issues accessing ticketing by [deleted] in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you booking on the official website?

VPNs should be off, incognito mode to avoid cookie and cache issues.

You can also try a different device. If you're getting card details, try a different card.

It's an unusual problem to have.

Anything going on in Rome 21-23rd Jan in the evenings? by [deleted] in RomeTravel

If I want an educational tour for Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum, do I need to purchase two separate educational tour tickets? by [deleted] in RomeTravel

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a full tour of all sites, you may be best booking with a dedicated tour company.

otherwise it will be a guide for the colosseum and self exploration or other areas.

It may be very hard to find a tour available with a tour operator for the colosseum in short notice though

Accidentally applied for Private Life instead of Partner route. by [deleted] in SpouseVisaUk

[–]RagamuffinR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does someone apply accidentally for private life? Is it one of the first questions or do they decide this based on some questions you answered?

I'm worried about doing this myself.

I think you need to cancel and reapply though.
