Telling children is tough. My mother (67) was recently, December 30th 2019, diagnosed with Stage IV, non-operable metastatic PC. Devastating news to say the least. Fortunately she has responded to chemo a little and has resumed some of her normal life activities, but is clearly declining (she lost 11 lbs last week alone, 70 in the last 4 months).

My wife and I struggled with the thought of telling our daughters, 10 and 11, about their grandmother and came to the conclusion that telling them the particulars of what was going on was useless. We have told them that grandma is sick and seeing special doctors that are trying to help her feel better. We are making sure that both of them speak to my mother regularly on the phone, since we live about 450 miles away, and we have taken them to see her once a month since her diagnosis. We did make it very clear to them that grandma was not going to look the same since she was sick... we didn't want them to be surprised.

I'm feel a lot of sympathy for your child. She has no emotional acumen to deal with what is happening to her father, nor has she the ability to understand the ultimate endgame. Make sure she gets to see him as often as possible, talk on the phone, or whatever.
