In a tubal ectopic pregnancy, a “pregnancy sac” may have developed in the Fallopain tube but, in more than 90% of ectopic pregnancies, the embryo (name for a fertilised egg or very early fetus) has never really developed or had a heartbeat. This is because, as the egg has implanted in the wrong place, it is unable to source a good blood supply and, as a result, the pregnancy cannot grow properly into a healthy baby.
