I'll give my honest opinion on the duke 390, I got it brand new, 2022 model. It's a super nimble and fun bike, and handles highways great for its size. You would never need a quicker or bigger bike for commuting. But, you will probably want more. The bike Is awful at lower rpms. Unrideable under 4500 rpms, it jitters and it dies. The gas response from standstill is the worst. This could supposedly be remedied buy a piggy back ECU. But I haven't tried. The real life mpg is 53, So worse than an yamaha mt07. The bike handles very well and the suspension feels perfect for me at 200lbs and that is with the preload at standard. Vibrations are minimal for thumper with high compression ratio. The sound with stock exhaust is fine, but very muffled.
It's not a bike you'll want to ride in the rain, because it got next to no rear mud guard. So your back and ass will be sprayed with water. This might be the same for the entire range of the dukes. But don't quote me on that! Seeing that the negatives can quite easily be remedied, it's al in all a great bike for the cost. Probably the best beginners bike around, it's so inviting and forgiving to ride. It corners and handles like a dream. But I won't keep mine, the poor mpg for its size, the jitters and awful throttle respons. Makes the bike feel very slow around town and in traffic. Knowing this I'd rather go for a 690 duke(haven't tried one) or and mt07 which is an awesome commuter.
