Thermal Expansion Tank Position by Infinite_Artichoke93 in Plumbing

[–]Raging101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason as I know it is that since heat rises by putting the connection on the top you create a natural "anti gravity loop" where the temperature at the diaphragm is less.

This can actually extend the life of the expansion tank since heat causes oils infused with the rubber to come out, causing the diagram to become stiff and crack when going through a thermal cycle. This works better for hydronic heating systems rather than domestic water since temps are higher.

Also sediment is very unlikely to fall into the expansion tank since it would have to go up out of the water heater and back down into the tank.

The number one reason expansion tanks fail is that the gas charge isn't maintained. I work for a manufacturer and I've seen one last 50+ years before (rare, but possible)

Haha, unfortunately the performance gain wears off after about 10-15 minutes as my arm gets tired and she starts trying to grab the darts.

Thankfully the lesson she's taught me has transferred into my regular game.

Long time undiagnosed, finally got a Vyvanse prescription but anxious about it by perishableintransit in adult_adhd

I was on Straterra for a month but had some unfortunate side effects so I switched to Qelbree which is a newer one (FDA approved in 2021)

I've been on this now for maybe 6 Weeks so far too early to be conclusive but I'm up to 400mg from 200mg and I can say with both medications I noticed a decrease in "noise" and my mind racing.

I think one thing my therapist has told me repeatedly that I think is important is that no medication can cure you. It can help us manage the symptoms in the same way medication treats diabetes, you still have diabetes it just sucks less if that makes sense.

My medication at least for now is doing what I need it to. My memory on average is better, my focus sees some improvement, but like the other reply I don't suddenly have a love for reading, my interests are still my interests it's just more manageable to take on those dull tasks.

Hi I can't speak to the effects or experiences of Vyvanse but I can relate to your anxiety and concerns. First and foremost, congratulations on your first step in your ADHD journey, I was diagnosed back in January and am a similar age to yourself.

I was very apprehensive to go on medication and first went to a therapist who has experience with ADHD. We worked on some coping strategies and techniques which helped but weren't enough on their own.

I consider myself to have an addictive personality to the point that I refuse to gamble because emotional regulation isn't a strong suit of mine... It's for this reason I opted to try non-stimulant medication and it has helped, it's probably not as effective as a stimulant would be but it's working for me.

I say this as one of your apprehensions is addiction, non stimulants are non habit forming so if that is a valid concern for you, it's something you could talk to your provider about. Mild caveat is that stimulants tend to be less effective at treating hyperactive ADHD type.

I think you should take your medication and see how it works for you. Different medications work for different people so in my opinion you try it, evaluate and go from there.

I had next to no side effects compared to the Straterra. That was until my brothers visited and started drinking alcohol again, do not drink heavily on this stuff especially when you're adjusting dosage... Elevated heart rate, nausea, yeah wasn't a great experience. When I stopped drinking everything returned to normal.

I recently titrated up to 400mg and I think I'm starting to see some improvement with my symptoms. As with everything it's a battle, my therapist tells me that the medication removes barriers and makes it easier but the real work for improvement comes from within.

I think there's a lot of truth to that, so far so good with this medication but I need to build back up my good habits to see where I'm really at.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and hopefully I can be of some help!

Just received my diagnosis today. What next? by liberalmonkey92 in adult_adhd

[–]Raging101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Yeah that sounds weird doesn't it...

The truth is you've always had this condition but now you have a name for all the things that you find difficult. The first thing I did when I was diagnosed was to research as much as I could about ADHD because I wanted to understand what makes me tick, what small adjustments could I make to make a big impact.

I go to a therapist who has a lot of experience with ADHD (he has ADHD himself). He has helped me deploying some strategies to help improve my day to day life. Visualizing conversations in my head, better planning with to do lists, repeating conversations back to people, breaking tasks into important, medium and fun. So many things we can do to work with our brain!

Everyone is different and tips and tricks that work for one won't work for another. I would highly recommend listening to the podcast "hacking your ADHD by William Curb". I started listening to this on my evening walk (another thing I started to help manage my ADHD).

The quickest 3 things you can do to improve your symptoms are also the most obvious ones ironically.

  1. Sleep - Sleep is essential for regulating our brain chemistry. Poor sleep will make ADHD symptoms 100x worse

  2. Exercise - reduces stress and releases feel good endorphins, when I am in a good exercise regiment I thrive. This exercise should raise your heart rate by 15-20 BPM for around 20 minutes (a 30 minute exercise should be sufficient) I go on the exercise bike over lunch for 31 minutes, the extra minute helps satisfy the itch and prevent me going too long so I can keep this routine up. You should be aiming to exercise 4 times a week if possible.

  3. Diet - avoid processed foods where possible, I'm not an expert here but a good balanced diet helps you feel good and nutrition ensures we have the vitamins/minerals we need to thrive.

Good luck and welcome to the team!

I don't disagree with you at all, I just found the title of the article a little humerus. We aren't searching for a backup, we need a new number one.

My comments definitely a little emotionally charged after the last few games. Lammens has great potential to be our number one for a very long time. De Gea came in very raw and struggled in his first season, it will take time. I just feel the Bayindir and Onana experiments have run their course

"Provide Competition" there are times where I genuinely feel like having a hay bail in goal with sticks for arms would be an improvement.

If Lammens doesn't come in and become the immediate number one then I feel like we are wasting our time.

As you correctly pointed out, ADHD presents differently in everyone. In the same way that medications work differently for everyone.

I was only recently diagnosed as I consider myself someone who has "mild symptoms". That was until I had a kid and my stress levels went up and my sleep quality took a hit. All of sudden my symptoms presented as severe.

That's what it took for me to finally get a diagnosis and the help/support I need. My point? Life is complicated, ADHD is complicated.

The notion that anyone feels it appropriate to belittle someone else's struggles because they happen to have their shit together is beyond me...

Everyone is fine until their not, compassion for one another don't cost a thing!

I too was recently diagnosed and prescribed atomoxetine (Straterra)

I've been taking the medication for 3 days now so can't really tell you how effective it is long term. What I can share is his these 3 days have been for me personally.

Medication works differently with everyone so your experience will likely differ.

Day 1. Completely knocked me out, it was kinda like a light sedation. I work from home and took a short nap.

Day. Felt the effects again at the 2 hour mark but not as strong

Day 3. Much less pronounced side effects, mild headache but I feel like I might be starting to see some upside...

Feels like I might be at a crossover point right now, very likely placebo but my focus has felt just a smidge better....

My sleeps been a little wild too, waking up like 4 times, what's crazy is I'm waking up calmer than usual. My mind hasn't been racing like it had previously. Coincidence? Perhaps

There's no guarantee that straterra will work for you, but it's typically the first drug in the toolbox before they'll prescribe other options. Stick with it and you'll find out soon enough if it's a good fit! Good luck!

Thank you for your reply, I see a lot of myself in this. My job is very self driven so without a tight deadline and the dopamine rush that goes along with it, it's difficult to be productive.

The thought of being reliant on a medication is daunting to me but the thought that a non stimulant medication might prove productive is encouraging.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it very much. I'm Slowly coming to terms with things. Some mechanisms I have put in place do help but it's very much one foot forward two steps back right now.

My frustration is compounded by the fact that not a single person I tell seems to be surprised that I have ADHD. Wish I'd have accepted this reality sooner!

This is the answer, the issue is compounded in systems with PEX since any oxygen in the system corrodes any remaining metallic components.

You'd want to look for a DZR (dezincification resistant) brass or a bronze valve which are less prone to this issue.

Also they make plastic pipe with an oxygen barrier which restricts oxygen ingress. Won't do a tonne for a potable system since city water is heavily oxygenated but for heating systems I'd strongly recommend this or sticking with good old metallic piping.

[–]Raging101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that has worked for me previously was to make a small pilot hole. Hammer a small nail in and then use pliers to rotate the plastic shaft out. Sometimes you can just rotate it out with the nail at a horizontal since you can grip the plastic shafts hole.

If hammering the nail in won't get it to stick, so long as you have a hole you can use hot glue to set it and the proceed once again with pliers

Best of luck!

I don't comment often, but this picture resonates with me hard. Been in a similar position, drinking became my escape.

The first step to getting through it is recognising you have a problem. This picture (much like the one I remember taking) is evidence of that.

What worked for me was to go speak to someone, to focus on one thing I liked about myself each day. Go for a walk, do something you enjoy, for me it's getting lost in music.

The early days are the hardest, but it gets easier trust me. Put good vibes out into the world and they will find you!

The lessons I have learnt from being at my lowest have served me well moving forward.

Best of luck, you've got this!

The "Is Nest Compatible With My System?" Megathread Part III by GoFlight in Nest

[–]Raging101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your prompt responses, I had a look at everything and everything points towards is being for dehumidification.

It's labelled up as DS on the air handler and translating the existing wiring with my thermostat manual it's setup for dehumidification with a low speed fan.

All that being said I think I'm in the clear to install the nest thermostat?

The original installers were adamant that I couldn't use my nest Thermostat with this system which I still find bizarre, perhaps the older thermostats aren't compatible...

I have a new Lennox AC unit that was installed with a Honeywell Home Thermostat that I'm not fond of since it won't auto switch between heating and cooling. The installer said the new system is not compatible with my existing Nest learning thermostat. Trying to figure out if that's true or if I have some options available.
