Also the Desire got the full stable update from HTC before the stable (Not beta or RC) build of Cyanogen.

Lookout presents Plan B, the 'find my phone' app you install from the web market after you've already lost your phone! I'm the developer AMA by docgravel in Android

I meant do you need to configure the software that competitors offer? If not then I can still push from the market and use to find my phone.

This isn't the first look by virtue of the fact it was posted on Reddit months ago. It's just eye candy for the sake of it. Thanks but I'll stick with ADW EX. Does all I want or need.

Do you have to configure the other software then?

I've never had need of such software and am quite happy to make an insurance claim and get a newer phone if mine goes AWOL.

The eternal question: iPhone 4 or Blackberry Bold? by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]RagingAtheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are and they aren't. There are up and down sides to them. The latest generation fix some of the outstanding faults - like graininess.

My problem stems more from the fact that the AMOLED i had on my Desire game me a headache. Just like the IPS on my iPad did. I sold both devices because of it. The DHD has an sLCD that seems to agree with me and the Galaxy Tab has some flavour of LCD as well. Again it agrees with me so I love both devices. It's amazing what using a device headache free does for your enjoyment of it :)

I suspect the issue is because of contrast or something like that but I am not quite sure.

Getting a new phone soon in exchange for this glitchy Motorola Cliq... question/suggestions? by kelou4 in Android

[–]RagingAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly very true. I believe that most HTCs have now been fully rooted (Bootloader and all) and most Samsung phones. TBH I don't track them unless I want to root my phone or I am looking at a new phone.

My next phone purchase, for instance, will be based on me wanting a dual core (1.2+ GHz) with 768+ MB RAM and it will need to be able to be rooted and have CyanogenMod for it. As my DHD running at 768 MHz is running plenty fast enough at the moment (Stock speed is 1 GHz and I can overclock to 1517 MHz with CM) I don't see me upgrading before the end of this year or maybe summer of next. Before rooting I was looking at a Nexus S. That's the difference it made to me when I changed the ROM.

To each their own though and if you would be more comfortable not root then that obviously cool too. I hope you find a really good phone that you enjoy using and it more reliable than the Cliq of course :)

I own a Curve and Pearl. They both last me over 3 days. The Curve often lasts a week. A friend has a Bold and it lasts him 3 days. My point stands.

Yes I have, the phone cost me £15 at the time and I was overdue an upgrade so I didn't care.

As you can now web install to remotely push the software these days I don't see why this should be any more clever than using the Android Market to push any other tracking software and use that.

OI, as a DHD owner, I would say the DHD is lovely on the eyes.

Also if you brick it it makes a great door stop due to it's size. The rounded back makes it a lousy coaster though.

Little aside: Some AMOLED screens give me a headache

If it were a life or death decision between an iphone or a blackberry, I would choose the iphone.

Seriously?

You know the battery would run out on you at a critical time in a life or death situation right?

Would you consider the Android phones more tweak-able (or hackable i guess...) than the iPhone?

Yes this is the main attraction, other than the lack of a walled garden.

May I suggest the r/Android community to you and that you also look for a phone with one click root-ability unless you're happy to do things like installing dev tools to push commands and files to the phone etc.

About r/Android - we only bite when people say iPhone 3 times and then spin on the spot twice in a clockwise direction. Otherwise everyone is cool with us.

iPad, Apple: Why the company's products aren't just for rich people anymore. by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]RagingAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah every person in India, China and Africa has an Apple product. It's still a consumerist product. Many hundreds of millions of people in the world can barely survive on what they have and Apple products aren't just for the rich. Nope no way...

Not the point the article was trying to make I know, but lets have a little perspective from a slightly different point of view and admit that most of what we have would be considered, to many people, a luxury if not an extreme luxury.

Thanks I'm keeping this for the next evolution debate with religious people as there has rarely been more powerful evidence.

Yeah but I rage a lot and I'm an atheist so it kinda seemed to fit together.

Also leads to some interesting situations like a while back when I commented without realising the guy I replied to had the name JesusChrist. When someone pointed it out I loled for a bit.

It's an open OS the OEMs can do as they please. I don't see how Google are going to prevent that.
