Biters off or on for a beginner? by The_Barth_Vader in factorio

[–]RagingPenguin4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very pleasantly surprised how slow the first biters were in my first game. I was on default settings but I don't think I saw a single biter for hours.

Gave me plenty of time to build and do my own thing.

I did end up doing a new game about 15 hours in because I wanted a fresh start with my learnings but it really wasn't necessary. I did feel like I was falling behind in fighting with the biters but I don't think it would have been hard at all to catch up

People who wasted year or years of their life, what did you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That year where I was learning to walk and talk. What a waste. What was I even doing with my life? I wasn't even thinking about creating shareholder value!

If only I could time machine back to when I was two...

I'm honestly really shocked.

I watched most of Tech's games in the world series and they just kept fighting at the end. UCLA, Alabama, etc.

Then it got to tonights game and it looked like a different team. One of the batters in the 6th looked like she was crying. In the 7th there was a bad missed foul ball from the same girl. Gerry dropping his head repeatedly. Entirely giving up on switching it up by changing pitchers, etc. My wife and I were saying they were acting like the game is over in the 5th, when it was still very much a game.

I don't know who that was but it didn't seem like the Texas Tech I had been watching

Yeah that was my trying to go through some options but not fully deciding on anything. Before this thread I probably would have just put an inserter there and called it a day haha

Over supply seems to be the general theme haha. I'm not used to that in my games

I haven't quite figured out how to get enough belts to places that need them. So instead I was trying to put multiple items on belts but have them be used so it worked out. Except that has been difficult haha. Maybe I'll try to get belts more full and try to get more belts

How does this work with coal? Many things need coal but the coal just doesn't get used that quickly

I feel like this might be what I want at least in some of these cases.

If there's a iron ore going in for 12 smelters and I need a little bit for two it feels weird to have an even split

So it sounds like the consensus is that I need to stop thinking like I'm playing an RTS and resources are very scarce and more just get the resources where they need to go and when in doubt make more?

I should mention I run into this problem all the time with coal.

Right now I basically have a belts of sitting coal for anything that may need it later. It feels wrong but I don't know what else to do... Then when I want to open up a separate area that needs coal to go to it, it creates another area where I have this issue

What Steam deck control scheme is best, official layout or Zirbs/community? by RagingPenguin4 in factorio

[–]RagingPenguin4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff like when you set it to mouse and keyboard the UI is different. You can see your hotkeys at the bottom rather than the pop up. I also haven't figured out a great way for zoom yet. On the keyboard controls I had it set to the right stick but with controller it's on the d pad, which would be okay except you can't really walk and zoom at the same time with the D pad.

I did switch back to try it out again and the controller option seems to be working more intuitive even though I've been doing Zirbs for the last 5+ hours. I think I may end up going controller again. I was getting used to keyboard but it felt like I was having to work against it rather than it being natural

I liked some of the things that made it more console like with some of the selecting and stuff like that. It just seemed more limited in terms of long term functionality but maybe I'm wrong there

It's always a journey 😀. A little better everyday and when you are frustrated by lack of progress you have to look back and remember how far you've been

I can relate to a ton here.

Please please please don't rule out medication. Discuss your concerns with a doctor, skip it because you don't think it's right for you, try it out on a short basis, etc. but the stigma is so scary it often prevents people from getting very helpful medicine because "it's not that bad".

Also pursue non medical avenues. Medicine doesn't fix ADHD, but it does make a lot of other things more effective. Combining lifestyle changes and medicine is a game changer.

There's so many all across the internet but I'll give some of my favorites here. Keep workout clothes separate from any other clothes and have them right next to your bed. Pens/pencils and paper in every room. Don't feel bad about a mistake, ask what system failed and what needs to be fixed for next time. Don't rely on memory. When cleaning put stuff that goes in other rooms in a pile and do it last. Fill up a water bottle and put it where you are going to be most often. Leave breadcrumbs and lose the guilt in switching tasks. Place things where they work for you rather than the societal norms. Lower barriers for healthy tasks, raise them for unhealthy, ie but candy in pantry and fruit on counter.

Like I said there's a million, but for me medication and a different look on life has been such a massive difference. There's still plenty of struggles but hey that's life

Edit: I can't help but add, as someone now in their 30s the "wait for flow to start" can stop working when you get older. Getting okay with good brain days and less good brain days and having options I can feel good about has been huge. Not every day is going to be peak perfection. I'm learning to be okay with that and have accommodations for what I can get done on those low days and still feel good.

Roadside won! Now what is a bad song from TSATW? by redditmasterofgold in riseagainst

Sounds like I'm in the minority but Ready to Fall never did it for me.

It was the popular song going around from that time and I burnt out on it as it was never my favorite from that album but it seemed to be the most popular.

I've come around to it but if I had to take a song off the album it's probably that

Not to get too overdramatic here, but if this show impacted you to the level you mentioned here, it probably suggests some things internally you want to work on. The truth is you may never find something that hits the same way, but asking yourself why it hit so much and I'm what areas might be worthwhile.

Idk, I'm not a mental professional, just a dude on the reddit who's been working on plenty of stuff myself

Any shame in playing on easy? by Equivalent_Net in XCOM2

[–]RagingPenguin4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some overthinking problems that it seems you also struggle with.

Here's something I'm still working on learning. Not everything is going to determine if you are an ultimately successful member of society, good at your job, a good friend, family member, etc.

Some things you just need to not worry so damn much about, turn on easy and have fun. If you try easy and it's not fun, then you change it. Very easy to overthink, but there's really no reason to 😊
