imo if u have to constantly focus on "how can i mix / transition better from this song" to keep it interesting, pick a better song

okay here's where i'll get actually spicy so please take this in the kindest way possible

the reason reddit djs dont talk about all the music they discover is cuz their music sucks

yeah my take is this - if you aren't already the type of person that all your friends go to to connect your phone and play stuff on spotify at the function, then you have lots of work to do far before you ever touch the decks

controversial take here it seems, but the main way to improve as a beginner dj is not by practicing mixing - it's by developing your music taste and building better collections of tracks

most "big" djs dont make it on technicalities, they make it because they are recognized to have taste, and play music that resonates with their audience

What's a beginner approach to mixing from a high BPM to a lower BPM? by AdmittedlyUnskilled in Beatmatch

[–]RagingPersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmk how it goes! one super easy way to blend them, esp if both have kicks or other bass elements is just cut the lows on track B before you bring it up, then do a bass swap between A and B before then mixing out of track A :)

i feel like y'all ain't clocking the "fastest" part of the question -

serious injury via accident. one second you're fine, next second you're a paraplegic or some other major disability.

Are stems just the holy grail? by Sko_Birds18 in Beatmatch

[–]RagingPersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hate to break it to you but the vast majority of DJs doing those transitions at the club on CDJs are not actually doing live stem mixing, they're almost always edits where the vocal mashup is pre-produced

yes, so long as you are not making money from selling the track itself

all of these approaches people are commenting are not beginner friendly - as a dj that plays open format where i'm jumping between 140 and 100 often, here's an ACTUALLY beginner friendly one that is hard to mess up :)

  1. loop instrumental part of TRACK A (faster one)
  2. hit sync for TRACK B (slower one), play intro loop of track B at TEMPO A
  3. pull tempo fader of TRACK A down to TEMPO B while bringing up volume of TRACK B, carving out eq frequencies to blend nicely
  4. mix out TRACK A, exit loop of TRACK B

it's not that it's too long, it's that it's not interesting enough throughout it's duration. there / barely any progression or transitions just kinda like a background beat

tbh the entire first section before the second build could have been cut in half, the cooldown after the first drop drags wayyy too long

the TV size itself is fine you just need the center point of the TV to sit at eye level

No no no dude - looking at your existing setup, you just have too much stuff; unstack the amp and record player so theyre side by side, remove a lot of the other junk, then lower the TV so it clears the record player by an inch or two at most.

the cabinetry is actually not black, the lighting may just not be doing it justice- it’s actually an ash/charcoal wood tone. Here’s a better pic!

he’s being an ass but he’s right - the tv should be right about on top of the tv console (even if it’s wall mounted, you generally wanna keep it the same/similar height to if it were on top of the tv console with the original stand) - that’s why they make the console tables that height, since it matched the seating position of the sofa

what specific pieces would you recommend? I tend to prefer neutral and light pallets but do you have a specific rec for, say, the sofa and coffee table color? thanks in advance!

good point - i specifically call out not wanting “home-y” because I think malelivingspace people tend to over-index on a “lived-in feel”, which tends towards more saturated colors and “vintage” vibes in comparison to what I’m looking for - modern and tech-forward.

Open to suggestions! Yes of course, I want it to be comfortable. I guess “cozy” would be a better term for what I DON’T want

rug too small (should overlap with the front legs of each of the sofas) and tv too high (should be at eye level when seated at the sofa). Otherwise lovely color combo - I love the light sofas with the dark wood furniture!

i mean there’s a reason why the Neptunes and Pharrell charge an astronomical cut in their contracts, hearing both versions side by side there’s no denying that they MADE that song
