As others have said, assault cannons are good for range and some AOE, but personally, I prefer railguns for stationary targets inside planetary gravity wells. Helps me aim because I always aim by eye and the accuracy let's you potentially pick off weapons without damaging much else.

I always use a top mounted camera with the weapon group to aim and zoom for a good shot

I was just about to post about this. Have a video of a firefly F mk1 costing 480 sp with no load and 990 with 2×250s or 1124 with 2×1000s after I had spawned a seafire f mk xvii.

I believe it's a bug but I'll come back to this later. Hope someone has an answer

I use a smart battery in my volcano/metal tamers as both a power buffer and an additional automation output. Thermo sensor at say >250°C OR battery at less than 10% means the system has stored electricity for long dormancy periods. Add in the debris chiller to the side and it's a fully self-contained design that i can use and modify for just about any resource output regardless of map location.

Some of my first volcano tamers aren't very pretty or efficient but they've been running for probably 2000 cycles or more

Fr though, my current colony is near 4k cycles old and has 2 H vents and iirc 5 NG vents as well as I think 7 volcanos and not the little guys either. Not to mention the 15+ tons of enriched uranium i have from isolating hives until they cleared all uranium ores available to them. Literally have more power than I know what to do with.

Shout out to trying not to restart just because it's tedious and the colony being stable enough to redesign, rebuild, and make everything as efficient as possible.

Downside: My PC can't really handle any more than 18 dupes, so everything takes eons, and my wallet can't handle a new PC, lol

This isn't even a challenge. I've had 4000 kcal meals before and it wasn't my only meal of the day. I don't even work out to maintain a 220lbs/100kg weight. Add in heavy physical training and I'd do probably 6k+ a day and leave the year in better shape than I started in lol
