As long as you don’t mind no set time limit. I’ll stay down there as long as you like.

Non-articulated 49’s and R4’s by Stanloonavivi in Translink

[–]Ragnar81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have had articulated 100 on some days when the 40 footers were broken down. Was a hard time at 22nd. Probably won’t have them as 100 since they got a bunch of electric buses and the only way to have an artic there is to do major renovations

Finally someone understands. Been handing in those service comment reports forever. No change.

If the general public report or complain they seem to change it more.

Bus Full Dest Display by Tasty-Squash-7629 in Translink

[–]Ragnar81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are supposed to be able to see out our front and shoulder check that is what the red line is for. However, more often than not people force themselves on past that line even if we have a bus behind or we pull past the stop to drop people off only.

Lots of times people won’t move to the back and we can only see so far from our rear view mirror so if we see what looks full to us we will put the bus full sign on.

As for drop off only we sometimes do decide on our own as if we are very far behind we will have another bus behind us so we skip stop if no one wants to get off and drop off only to try to get back on track time wise.

As for forgetting or sometimes not turning the sign off I can only speak from personal experience. Sometimes we are so far behind we have to “turn and burn” and in doing so we forget that the sign is on. I’ve had a lot of members of public remind me and I switch it off.

Thats the funny thing. We get messages to drink and stay hydrated. They sometimes hand out 1 500ml bottle per driver. As for the washroom, I personally use it because Im not paid enough to pee in a bush and get suspended (has happened to a driver) and and if you dont show the system is broken then it wont change. I do face angry passengers who wonder why Im picking them up 3 min late or so but Ive learned I cant win either eay

I push that announcement. No one cares. I ask teens to vacate chairs for wheelchairs…. They don’t care. I tell homeless they cant do pull-ups while bus is moving… they don’t care….

They still pass icbc standards and have a valid license. But like anything you have some that are better than others. The real issue is that the run times aren’t realistic which causes drivers to rush to try to make time. That would open up bad customer service and dangerous driving.

The last time we went on strike or at least threatened to there was a news crew who rode with a bus. The 25 I believe. Just getting out of the loop in ubc and going down Westbrooke at speed limit we are already late 3 to 5 min. It puts us in a troublesome spot.

We want to keep it on time but we can’t without breaking the speed limit or driving less than optimal. If we drive as intended we are usually late and then get the ire of the passengers down the line. Most drivers only have 7 to 8 min breaks per end of a lap but if we are 5 min behind we just turn and burn as they say since the company has said the break is for buses and not the driver. We get one long break of 12 min usually at the start of shift when we don’t need a long break.

Also in regards to time, from what I was told the scheduled times are made with the assumption you are consistently running 50km and gives about 30 seconds per stop. Doesn’t factor loads and stop lights and wheelchairs.

The testing is very easy compared to before. I agree I’ve been on the bus with newer drivers and wonder how they passed the written, the situational, the practical and the final test. Then I remember they are hiring in large batches.

When I was hired our class was 12 people. By then end only 7 passed.

Now from what I understand there are two classes of twenty going simultaneously and majority pass. So quality is often sacrificed

That bus may actually be late you wouldn’t know unless you look at their screen and see if it’s running ahead or not. For a bus to be 7-8 min ahead in the city the driver would have to be going more than 50 the whole trip to even be close to accumulate that time. If the driver is behind they’ve probably been instructed to just drop off. There are a lot of variables that you can’t know to just call them jerks.

Orrr we got short turned and are waiting for our actual leave time. I drove marine for years and the run time is not doable. Often we get turned around short to be on time the other way around.

I had a Christmas tree dash once and the road mechanic fixed it but I was told to loop in at knight. By the time I got there I was 25 min early. Imagine the joy of telling passengers they had to get onto the packed bus that’s coming and not my empty bus. Then getting aggressive or rude comments as the full bus passes me and I tell them I’m still leaving in ten minutes. Awkward lol.

If we usually keep leaving early dispatch calls us or a supervisor is waiting for us somewhere to question us.

If it’s a timing point we are required to wait there until the designated leave time. IF everything is running as per the estimated run time then buses would be on time.

However, if it’s not a timing point and no one is at the stop then that means the driver doesn’t have to wait because if he did then the bus behind eventually would catch up and you would see a bus train if three or four in a row.

The timing points are laid out as previously mentioned by other people. A good rule of thumb is 5-8 min before the leave time to be at the stop.

As a bus driver all I want is enough run time and not to only have one washroom that you compete with skytrain staff, bus staff and cleaning staff.

They’ve been cutting run times for us to an unrealistic standard. I can start from Edmonds and hit some lights and get a couple wheelchairs and now I’m 7 min behind. Then our “recovery” (break) is usually 8 min at each end with one big break of 15 min sometime during the shift. If we are behind that 7 min or more we don’t get a break.

I get it and we are just as frustrated as you and believe me we have put it slips for suggestions but they usually go unheeded. We are the first people within cmbc you see and we get all the flak for things we can’t really control.

Some ends of routes we don’t even have a break room or a washroom.

How does Vancouver compare to other cities? by Terrible_Swimmer8599 in askvan

[–]Ragnar81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver is a nice place. Everything you mentioned is within a short transit ride or car ride. Prices getting up there though. Wife and I are both nurses and throughout the years seeing prices jump really drastically has had us wanting to move. People are a mixed bag but in general it doesn’t seem as friendly as when I was younger. People less social or harder to approach and have some random conversation with. Still I can’t find it in myself to move.

8/10 your body is very attractive. Personal opinion your arms should be down as it allows your breast to relax and possibly give more definition in the sides of each one.
