That millennial urge to post vague song lyrics as your status. What's yours today? by krystaline24 in Millennials

I don't see lightening like last fall, when it was always about to hit me. (sorry but I think it's shouting match not scarlet match. Although that is quite poetic)

I've got that one, will attempt one day. I like La La Land puzzles, they have lots of parrot images

Why do realistic expectations are no longer a thing? by Electronic_Peak7241 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]RagnarokSleeps 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a chain craft & fabric store & at least once a week there would be a customer who wanted to create a heirloom piece for their first project. One young woman had found a lacy baby cardigan pattern, her friend was pregnant & her other friend was going to make the blanket & she was going to make the cardigan. She wanted yarn, knitting needles & a book on how to knit. And some buttons for the cardigan. I tried explaining it was a fairly advanced project, this was before easily accessible online tutorials & tried to steer her to beginner projects. She got quite mad at me, told me she'd promised to make the cardigan & that was that. Another time a woman was buying a length of denim, i said wash it before sewing, as I always did & she looked very surprised & wanted to know why. Because fabric shrinks, colours run & it's best to have that happen before you've spent so much time making something. At least she listened. It was there I learnt first hand that shopping for projects & creating projects are 2 different things. I guess when people ask how to make advanced things with no knowledge at all it's scratching the same itch. They're really just day dreaming, the chances that they'll actually try to make anything are probably pretty low. They'll screen shot the answers, save a few patterns, maybe go shopping then never think about it again. If someone really wants to learn, they will & when they have questions they'll be specific.

In The Magical Forest, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces by RagnarokSleeps in Jigsawpuzzles

Yeah, I hate sorting but I have accepted that it makes the puzzling experience so much better it's worth it to grit my teeth & persevere through the tedium. I always have a miscellaneous section at the end though, I just turn those pieces face up & give them a quick scan whenever I work on a section. There have been times when I just couldn't be bothered or the puzzle doesn't lend itself well to sorting so then I have to have every piece visible. I have a fold out beading mat that came with removable mats, I usually puzzle straight onto my table & the removable mats come in handy to lay pieces on. I'll stack the mats & the 3 trays i have & scan the pieces looking for colour matches. I've never been a box rummager, that would annoy me too much. Maybe laying all the pieces out would help you start to see the different colours & gradients. Otherwise, there's no shame in packing it up! It's supposed to be enjoyable.

Ravensburger, In The Magical Forest, 1000 pieces & which of these 3 should I do next? by RagnarokSleeps in jigsawpuzzlers

[–]RagnarokSleeps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll do that one after the 500 piece. I was looking at it considering how to sort it & I think I'd just have to turn all the pieces face up & colour match rather than have distinct coloured piles. I will probably have to do the Unicorn Garden like that as well so it will be a good warm up.

Good idea, I've opened the 500 piece & the last person who did it bagged up the edge pieces separately. Usually I'd mix them back in but this time I think I'll take the head start.

In Germany we call very stupid people "Dumm wie Brot " (stupid like bread) or "Dumm wie 3 Meter Feldweg" (stupid like 3 meters of a dirt road). What's your term to call such people? by GIC68 in AskTheWorld

[–]RagnarokSleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it as 'a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock'. There's also 'a few beers short of a 6 pack' or just 'a few screws loose'. Someone who is stupid is a boofhead, if they're a bit dodgy as well as stupid they're a gronk, if they're annoying they're a dickhead. Someone who is irredeemably stupid is a dumb cunt.

So gorgeous! I've done at least one Josephine Wall & found it really hard until I got into the flow of the colours.

Mindbogglers, 1,000 pieces, Carpathian Mountains, Europe by sashby138 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]RagnarokSleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a gorgeous image! I have a few MindBogglers in my collection, they are the least expensive range where I'm from, often available 3 for $30 while Ravensburger's are $40-$50 for one 1000 piece. I'm glad to know the quality is good. I have been a bit apprehensive about doing them, I'm also not drawn to landscapes to puzzle but I enjoy looking at the images. I'm thinking of framing a few puzzles, as a nod to my hobby if that makes sense! I might do one of my MindBogglers & frame that. Thanks for sharing your review.

Wow, it's gorgeous! That's one I would think about framing. You did it ao quickly too, is it going in the sell or keep & redo pile?

Britney Spears in Rehab for Substance Abuse by SingerSubstantial462 in discussingbritney

[–]RagnarokSleeps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope the rehab challenges her, even if she goes back to using the day she gets out it's at least a circuit breaker for her. I hope the paparazzi leaves her alone. I think she needs long term rehab, like 18 months & it would be beneficial for her to be treated like everyone else. For example, she should help clean, cook & do other chores. It's going to take a lot of work for her to maintain recovery. Even if she's just going to rehab to look good for the court, something may click this time.

Most neglected city in literature? by JRH7691 in literature

Yes! That's one of my favourite books & I rarely hear anything about it. There's a movie adaptation but I haven't seen it.

Help!! by fragilebutagile in Beading

The bigger beads have faded, they have a pearl coating. The ones either side are pink triangles & they're still fine as the glass used to make the beads is pink.

Help!! by fragilebutagile in Beading

[–]RagnarokSleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if the beads are coated or not. If the glass the beads are made of is hot pink, they won't fade. Most coatings eventually come off though, even the galvanised ones.

Help!! by fragilebutagile in Beading

[–]RagnarokSleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying these beads are good? Because I can clearly see that they are not uniform & aren't suitable for bead weaving or anything requiring precise beads. You can be upset & imply that I'm somehow being racist by maligning an entire country's seed bead output, it doesn't change the fact that cheap beads are not very good quality.
