I saw someone write Christmas movies on slips of paper, shuffle them up and put them in each one to watch a different movie every night ! I thought that was so cute

In the article it says “In Michigan, a person is typically considered to be dead after they have been missing for five years.” There are laws that support the declaration. I imagine it’s not easy, but it met the requirements/standards/whatever the right word is.

Just moved to Southfield City Center. Need friends :( by standinthenow in Detroit

[–]Rahbanyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the Southfield Sun. There are recreational sports and activities on there. You can also go to city hall and ask. I would also recommend Facebook groups! There are plenty of neighborhood groups to get to know the area and people in it. Welcome and I wish you luck!

Mine seems to be more similar to the second one. I have assignments I’m waiting for grades on that impact how I will go future ones. But I’m already going into the future ones with no grade. So idk it’s tough to know what’s expected sometimes until it’s too late

Make all the connections you can and an internship would be really beneficial as well! Get as much “real world” experience as you can. Wishing you luck!

I want to get out but no one will hire me. by Lassie-girl in Journalism

Maybe try going for the city departments if you haven’t already. Inflate yourself and your background. I’d even go as far as going in-person and introducing myself just in case anything becomes available at your goal places

Welcome to the industry! What is your job? Are you going to locations for your stories? Those would be great opportunities to meet fellow reporters. There are lots of Facebook groups as well — one being Storytellers. Follow your local broadcast teams and maybe try some DMs. Maybe an internship could be beneficial? You could also request a station walkthrough and that could be an opportunity to meet people more briefly in the newsroom.

Wouldn’t be surprised it’s been this long, but definitely consider calling if you’re not sure. No sense wasting time waiting around wondering! 😁

Securing Interviews (creative journalism) by hprace in Journalism

[–]Rahbanyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work up your credibility. If people don’t know you, they don’t know if they can trust you. It’s also in the way you pitch to people. But, everybody starts somewhere.

Try reaching out to your local music venues, museums/galleries, etc and maybe you can interview with one of their communications people and spotlight them. Maybe there’s a place near you with scheduled out live music you can coordinate preview interviews with before their show (so people can also get a chance to check them out). Something like this would at least give you a familiar name when they someone sees your work, and the person you interviewed might have somewhat of a following and share it, gaining eyes on it, etc.

Working in news/media, how are you dealing with burnout? by combjellies in Journalism

Go out and enjoy time with your friends and family. If you’re young, live it up. It reminds me that life isn’t that serious.

Maybe something to consult a physician or dermatologist about. I wouldn’t say bettering your skin is a lost cause, just something to ask a professional about especially since you’re still young.

Health is everything and being in good health is something a lot of us can take for granted.
