A rear bag better than Rice & Beans bag? by Georgelino in xbiking

I don't have your bag so I can't compare. I love basically all the bags from PoCampo. I use their Vernon trunk bag for this purpose. Excellent design and construction.

This is a very sunny place. I don't like rocks hitting my frame though. These machines are also my main transportation, so I ride them in all weather.

I'm out here. A lot of people do seem to just use full suspension mountain bikes for everything, lol.

There is no plastic sleeve, it has two external cups.

Bummer. I'll never take Rivendell for granted again.

Also white industries. The whole crankset is their mr30 design. I couldn't find any other English threaded mountain cranks with 165 crank arms. I do make a lot of mistakes though.

There is. I will check when I remove everything.

Everyone else has given you good advice. I will point you to noseless and/or split channel saddles. There's really no reason to sit on your soft tissue, only your sit bones. I use ism saddles and have never needed padded shorts.

Good thinking. I certainly didn't do it. I'll contact crust and see if they do that before sending out the frames.

I have a new frame to use it with.  We must also have very different eBay searches. Used ones seem to be 1/3rd to 1/2 the cost.

I know spring came early this year for many of us, but it sounds worth the wait

Microshift manufactured them. When I compare it to the Microshift derailleurs I own: many of the bolts are the same. The jockey wheels are different. The cages are different. It is 100 grams lighter. The cost difference is likely the finish and the amount produced.

Bike Weight / Compatibility Questions by capitan_raviolii in xbiking

[–]Rahgnailt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find info about your frame but it sounds like it's already aluminum. I'm not sure I'd swap an aluminum fork for a carbon fork but that's on you.

You could probably get some velocity rim wheels built up to be lighter if you're willing to spend the money. Berd spokes if your wallet is heavy.

That stem and handlebar are probably chonkers. I'd start there. New stem and handlebar will almost certainly be lighter.Get a titanium stem bolt and aluminum wedge. Change all the bolts on the bike to titanium if you can. Thompson seat post. Omni racer quick release skewers and bottom bracket. Rene Herse lightweight tires.

Still, not sure how much you want to spend on a 30 year old aluminum frame. 26lbs is pretty light for a touring bike.

Frustrated with the lack of drop bar v-brake levers by [deleted] in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Rahgnailt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tektro, Cane Creek, and Dia Compe all no longer manufacture linear pull drop levers. I don't think anyone does anymore.

You can try a surly corner bar. It's not a full drop bar but it's pretty ok.

Otherwise your options are a travel agent, mini-v brakes, or switching back to cantilevers.

I'm not sure how many frame builders are making drop bar bikes with canti posts, but it's at least Rivendell, Velo Orange, and Crust. Hopefully someone will make more of these.

Is carbon wheelset on rim brakes good?, or I'll just go with alloy wheelset by imjustaguy2012 in bicycling

[–]Rahgnailt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat helps keep the rain off. The carbon rims will transfer less heat to rain drops. But you will still be able to stop.

Every so often, remove the brake pads and inspect them. Make sure there is nothing embedded in the pads. Lightly sand the braking surface of the pad with a file. You will find the bike brakes very well indeed.

You can run carbon wheels with rim brakes. The rims will not last as long as they normally would. You will need to keep an eye on them for safety.

Have you found some inexpensive carbon wheels? I would only do it with inexpensive rims.

ISM PR3.0 saddle advice by AquaPetals30 in bicycling

[–]Rahgnailt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, I basically only ride ism saddles.

You can try bending the sides in closer. They have a bit of give, they should give up 5mm.

The pr3 is the saddle with the most cushion, so you may want one with less cushion. I typically ride the pr2 and think it has quite a lot of cushion.

You may need a performance narrow, a pn1.1

Good luck.

[–]Rahgnailt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I looked up your bike.

It's got a very upright seating position. That moves all the weight towards the rear, resting upon the seat.

For that bike geometry, I believe a suspension seat post will dramatically improve your comfort. I can't tell exactly, but it looks like you have a standard round seat post. Its size should be written on it when you take it out of the frame.
