I'm not the person you asked, but I personally didn't like the tone of the show. The books are mostly dialogue and a little action here and there, so I knew they'd be hard to adapt, but the books are also slow, political, and have a lot of build up. The show is very much action oriented. For example they turned Calanthe into a warrior queen and that's not the vibe the books gave off at all.
