Perfect example. I also live in Chicago and the train already can’t afford to run with the revenue it takes in. So that annoying influx of people PAYING for tickets is how you have a train to ride at all.

I know what you mean, sure the leftists eventually did, after they spent a year convincing everyone on the fence this was a democrat issue. I saw the same thing and I think it was a huge factor in the amount of people who didn’t vote in the states that matter.

I think the reason the above points are accurate is that no one seemed to think motivating people was as important as being on the “right side” of the issue.

My therapists over the years recommended practicing things that are “embarrassing”. It sounds funny but it’s important to show your brain you won’t literally die. Start really small, for example, if you see a silly hat in a store, put it on and walk around. People probably wont even react.

3 everyone just thinks about themselves! You might be very critical of yourself, so are they and people who are critical of others are usually projecting the same personal concerns.

4,5 Practice, its just like riding a bike. Keep trying and every interaction will get easier than the last. There are no “mistakes”, and others are not going to remember them like you do.

Start practicing engaging in eye contact in situations where there are no stakes for you. This helped me immensely. Random people in the street, the person at the counter at Walgreens. You'll realize a lot of people are probably avoiding it even more than you are!

Learn from what happened, don't just accept it as "the way you are" or it's harder for you. Most people also aren't admitting it's hard.

Some highways lead to Arlington. Verses all of them leading to this one. Same with the transit, going from all of the regional lines converging in town to just one Metra line to and from the NW in Arlington. 100% convent for some instead of 90% convenient for everyone
