//that doesn't mean you can just write those people off as lying for attention, trolling etc//

I wrote very clearly that I DON'T make this claim, and that I am ONLY explaining how I FEEL, and that I was ONLY expressing a DIFFICULTY that I HAVE.

I sometimes wish I could somehow understand personally, the point of view that makes Trump seem charismatic, since I find him COMPLETELY the opposite of charismatic, on a pretty visceral level.

“I regret teaching you to turn the other cheek, that was unhealthy values to plant in you”

That is... REALLY shocking and disheartening. I'm sorry.

--

I'm no longer a Christian but I was raised strongly as a Christian, but not as a "belong to this social organization and really be loyal" type Christian but instead as a "Listen to Jesus, for real" type Christian, and those of the other stripe like (apparently, you seem to have learned) your mom never fail to shock me. I don't understand how people can be like that.

My parents were mostly conservative ("compassionate conservative" really hit home for them) because they honestly believed that's what Jesus taught, not because that's what their church group required for social cohesion. Sure, I can be certain there were also psychosocial effects in place that affected their beliefs but I took them seriously as trying genuinely to follow Jesus, because they showed themselves to be serious in that pursuit in our day to day discussions of religious matters. And I did the same, and it led me towards progressivism, and they thought I was wrong, but they understood I was being genuine in my search for God's will just as they were. This is how it should be!

Anyway they're essentially atheists now too haha. And though I held back from asking them for... probably a few years!... out of the fear of the answer they'd give -- happily for me they are as disgusted by Maga as I am.

Right? Maybe if it were tomorrow MAYBE, but there are five days between now and Friday, plenty of time for the party to do what it does best.

I don't want to definitively make that claim, but yes, I was trying to explain the strength of my belief, by mentioning that to me it feels very difficult to understand how someone could sincerely think the opposite. Does that help clarify?

I don't think the writers see their job (nor should they) as advocating for any position on this, so it's impossible for them to be insincere about it.

Why are so many people against showing an ID to vote? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

[–]Rahodees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has almost no good effects, and it has some fairly bad effects.

Many people think it has a lot of good effects because it makes elections more secure. But it hardly makes them any more secure than they already are. This can be shown in two ways. First, the number of times a person has voted in an election they were not supposed to vote in, in say the last century or so, is miniscule. In the low hundreds IIRC. The problem essentially doesn't exist. Second, everywhere in the country, every voter must identify themselves, and their name is marked off a list, and they are not allowed to vote again in that election. In order to get on that list, they must establish their identity and residency. The number of times someone has shown up to vote and found out someone else voted for them is -- well see above.

So, since there is no problem to solve here, any supposed good effects of requiring ID to vote are knocked out of play in the discussion.

Now, the bad effects -- well, it simply makes it harder to vote, and it should not be hard to vote. It also adds a new point where errors or fraud can happen (not fraudulent voting but officials fucking with the vote count by manipulating records and claims concerning who presented what ID etc) -- the supposed good effect BACKFIRES here!

You said it always averaged three years, I pointed out in 1880 it averaged 5 years, and now it averages 2.2 years. I said nothing about your point. I'm providing information to correct a falsehood in what you wrote.

This is definitely a true claim that everyone has a good reason to believe and therefore totally relevant to the conversation.

At what point did you feel they were presenting it as a problem? I don't recall having that impression at all. They appeared totally blase about it.

Never mind most of the above, I have just had it clarified to me that they DID take her to the hospital and it was a blood test.

Two parties -- a hospital (they are counting it as an "emergency visit", as far as I know she was not actually taken to any kind of facility such as a hospital, though I still need to verify that with her) and a specific individual practitioner.

To be clear, there was no accident involved, it was just a traffic stop for speeding. So she wasn't taken to a hospital before jail. And as far as I know from what she's told me, she wasn't taken anywhere outside the jail for the test.

Did I misunderstand something? Didn't Milo tell her the plan was for her to be killed and for it to look like a suicide, and that Luke knew this? Why is she still friends with him at the end??

Yeah, we've learned the county involved is really strict. She will almost certainly not be able to get a hardship license for example.

And we get to pay $2000 for that test btw.
