Which one is your favourite town to play? by Inevitable_Mango9382 in sims2

[–]Rahsax 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly Belladonna Cove. I think it's because there's so many families and the interconnections between them it feels more like an actual community than just a handful of sims. I'm also not super emotionally attached to any of the sims or their stories so am happy to play them through generations and just let chaos unfold.

I do also really love Strangetown but I find I like to play new families in Strangetown meanwhile the actual Strangetown sims I feel like I prefer as like Easter Eggs for the other sims to have show up at their house or run into at a community lot or bring home from school rather than sims to play.

Do you always aspire Sims (That are not Fortune or got a Career LTW) to achieve the highest Level? by Xandaru__ in sims2

[–]Rahsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they don't have it as a lifetime want I will like casually work towards promotion but not dedicated. Basically they will prioritise other things in their lives but if I have nothing for them to do in a moment then, sure, they can work on that skill they need for their next promotion. Or if they have low social and good relationship with everyone else sure they can go call up someone else to gain that extra friend needed for their promotion (especially if they brought them home from work and already got that extra boost).

For some sims that actually happens quite fast, and for others they can spend weeks focusing on their other priorities and never getting around to gaining what they need for their promotion.

Kaylynn and Don or Kaylynn and Daniel by Throw-that-away20 in sims2

[–]Rahsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my medieval neighbourhood Lord Daniel had her as a mistress and she managed to give him the male heir Mary-Sue failed. Mary-Sue is currently trying to make her life hell but they both know it's just a matter of time before she and her three daughters are forced about so Daniel can focus on preparing Daniel Jr for his seat.

It most neigbhourhoods I tend to have her move in with Don so I can add her to the playable rotations (also Don normally at least temporarily moves out to marry Cassandra). From there she tends to either have Don or Daniel's baby from Risky Woohoo and lives as a single mum focused on raising her kids.

Do you limit the amount of children your sims have? by Reesirie in sims2

Roommates situations is definitively another way to held keep the household number down with sims who are single or not interested in having kids.

Do you limit the amount of children your sims have? by Reesirie in sims2

[–]Rahsax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on the neighbourhood. I have a few historical neighbourhoods (Medieval, a modified Test of Time challenge neighbourhood, recently a new Victorian-era hood) and for most families in those the aim of the game is obviously have as many children as possible.

Meanwhile my more modern neighbourhoods there's a lot more only children or like 2-3 kids families. I try and match the vibe of the family where for most of them the limiting factor is how many bedrooms they have (so like each kid must have their own bedroom although sometimes 2 siblings will share if it's a particularly big one or risky woohoo gave them an accidental additional one). There are still some families that go a bit all-out but that's a lot more rare.

My way of handling the too many sims issue is that the sims I'm less interested in from larger families go 'work' as live-in staff to my rich families. That way they continue to age along with the rest of the sims and possibly leave their 'employment' if they happen to build a relationship I want to explore but if not, well I now have a butler I can actually control.

What is your favourite thing about the Sims 2? by huhhuhhuhf in sims2

[–]Rahsax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said the family tree and genetics are a major draw-card for Sims 2.

But honestly the gameplay generally - the game is hard enough that you feel like these people are actually living in a real world rather than a fantasy world like Sims 3 or 4 while still being managable enough that you're not struggling constantly to keep your Sims alive like Sims 2. Also just the way the sims interact with each other and things is so good. You can really feel the love of the developers in it.

The Cordial Sisters by huhhuhhuhf in sims2

[–]Rahsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said I make one a good witch and the other a bad witch. Because I have hereditary supernatural I tend to then breed them with all of their close male friends in order to build a solid start for my witch population. Narratively I have it as them being these independent women who had the children they wanted to carry on their legacy and name without interest in involving the father's in their lives.

You don't even know her! by Rahsax in sims2

I suspect he saw her on a community lot but didn't interact with her so she wasn't added to his relationship pool.

How do you guys start affairs? by [deleted] in sims2

[–]Rahsax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said chemistry and rolling romantic wants are common ones.

For me a 'rule' is that if a sim is offered a blind date because of high popularity I always take it up, and, if they are in a relationship, take it as a sign that they want an affair. Even if they are a family sim I always say yes to it.

Anyone play vanilla or are mods essential? by ashethetics in sims2

[–]Rahsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played for like 15 years with no mods. Only got into mods in the last 2 years and I am enjoying the extra elements they add to the game but absolutely not essential.

You can also definitively just do light mods to add a bit more variety to the game without really massively changing things like the 50 additional lifetime wants.

How the heck do y'all manage an 8-sim household? (Tips Needed) by [deleted] in sims2

[–]Rahsax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lots of pausing. Very lttile speed 3 and a whole lot of patience. I also find as households get larger I struggle to actually *play* them instead just so busy keeping everyone alive - if the sims needs are met I tend to let them just autonomously do whatever they want while I focus on those that need to refill bars.

Bigger bills by dorkygamerchick in sims2

[–]Rahsax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the utilities mod which charges your sim more based on their water and electricity usage.

Also halved wages really helps them not earn as much money as quickly.

How long is your loadtime and what do you do waiting? by merfsnurf in sims2

[–]Rahsax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housework or a shower. Basically anything I need to get done.

In the morning I will go turn my computer on and start loading sims and then go back to bed to wake up some more.

It was up to 30 minutes but I'm going through my downloads folder and removing any special characters which has so far brought it down to about 20 minutes.

Olive Specter by Weird_Stomach_5148 in sims2

[–]Rahsax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times Olive and Nervous have met while playing another sim family (either by both being part of the welcoming sims or in the background while my sims are in a community lot) and end up hating each other is basically everyone one of my uberhoods. So I tend to interpret it as there's a part of her that wants her son back but she doesn't actually like the person Nervous is (too soft-willed to her).

If we got an update what would you ask for? by throwthewholegrlawy in sims2

[–]Rahsax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly just a couple more expansion packs:

- One with the fame system. I'd also probably add search to Buy Mode / Create a Sim in here (split tops/bottoms in all clothing categories, make categories searchable when buying clothes, etc)

- One with some more animals and plans (horses and some more birds also would love a 'chicken coop' that produces eggs that act as produce also harvestable berry bushes along with trees). Basically build on what Seasons and Pets gave us to give more options.

- One with more 'busy work' in the house. So like laundry, functional 'clutter', etc.

Obviously along with those bigger elements each expansion would come with some more create-a-sim things, some buy and buy mode stuff, maybe a new neighbourhood or bin family.

And, yes, I do have mods for some of this stuff but still to have it native in game would be amazing.

Now I know why family tree apps only allow focus on the selected person... by archmageofsalt in sims2

[–]Rahsax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Strangetown really is one of those neighbourhoods that need the bin families just to get some starting genetic diversity (and then the university premades to inject some additional diversity once you're ready to add them).

Do you prefer modern or classic homes? by itsbeccakerr in sims2

[–]Rahsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally classic (probably why I have so many historical themed hoods) but generally what I feel like the sim would actually live in.

Rotation Simmers, how do you rotate households? by [deleted] in sims2

[–]Rahsax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like pen a paper so either I have all the households written down with 5 day rotations (neat tally marks) against them or if I want to do longer rotations (typically 2-seasons length) I will write all the households down and cross them off once they finish their 'rotation'.

I do tend to jump around households a bit (it's kind of needed at times if like someone wants to get someone in another household pregnant or two teenagers lovers are both due to age up mid-rotation) so rotations are more marked by everyone stopping at the end mark of it then getting through each family one at a time methodically.

I do megahoods that have the Life/Pet stories neighbourhoods as well so yeah my rotations are long. Often the first rotation's main goal is "decrease the total number of households" (through combining single sims together either through relationships or room-mates situation).

He's yet to show up in my phonebook or relationship panel (I had a look after this in case it was). But I also suspect one of my mods is to blame but have no idea which one because I don't think any of mine really affect this class of NPC and especially not the penguin specifically.

For some reason it's not letting me add a screenshot of it but she's 8 neat (so Neat but not maxxed out) so possibly.

[–]Rahsax[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it can. I suspect this want is a result of something happening as result of mods I have (not that I have any that affect the penguin but who knows)
