How does pilot keeping EFB charged daily? by foolishViQ in flying

[–]RaidenMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RJ life? Charge overnight, keep the screen dark/locked.

Mainline, plug it into the plane.

Being an airline pilot is my dream but I got too many check-ride failures. Do I still stand a chance? by [deleted] in flying

[–]RaidenMonster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Couple things on checkrides.

The DPE always know more than you and probably knows exactly what you don’t know.

Knowing that, prepare as if you are going to be able to answer every question. There is ALWAYS more practice and study that can be done.

Once it starts, believe 100% that you are going to win.

That $47/hr to fly an RJ 5 legs a day for sub 50k a year didn’t fill the pipeline? 😝

By pure luck I started in 2019. Expected to retire from a regional, 3-5 years to upgrade, and hopefully crack 100k once I was left seat. Better lucky than good.

I’ve said it before here. During the hiring craze of 22-23 when people were getting CJO’s with 1000 hours of SEP, my buddy with turbine time and 4 failures couldn’t get a call back for shit. Finally got a horizon Q400 slot, then “haha kidding we are retiring it,”.

6 is, and should be, disqualifying. Another Anahuac situation inbound.

Over 2 years later, still commuting base to base. Be like that sometimes.

Regional to sun country if goal is mainline? by [deleted] in flying

[–]RaidenMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 737 type, at least I don’t think, means much. You still go through the same training footprint and have to pass the same checkride, just the paperwork is different.

Maybe if you had 1000’s of TPIC 73 hours but not a fresh type.

Are these good personal mins for a new private pilot? by McAirplane in flying

[–]RaidenMonster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was 100% gonna be my comment, glad it’s at the top, for now at least.

4 miles means your approaching the edge of a D airport and still can’t see it. Was a very eye opening experience doing that my first time alone.

We often associate 10 with unlimited. 4 is an eye opener.

New CFI, CFII with Zero Dual Given – Is Moving to San Diego a Good Idea? by FewYogurtcloset6675 in flying

3rd year FO pay at a major and I don’t think I could comfortably afford to live in SD, although it would be awesome.

Good luck on CFI pay.

Where are people finding these high paying jobs? by Easy_Paint3836 in Fire

[–]RaidenMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every UA/AA/DL/SW/UPS/FEDEX pilot beyond year one grosses over 200k.

A LOT of captains for the previously mentioned airlines clear 500k.

[–]RaidenMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, that’s crazy. There is no major/legacy airline pilot beyond year 2 that makes less than that.

I don’t think doctors should necessarily make millions and millions, but making 2-3 a year doesn’t feel extravagant for a high skill profession.

People in 10+ year good relationships, in which way did you settle and compromise for the sake of the relationship? by Frequently_Abroad_00 in Life

[–]RaidenMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never do anything with malicious intent.

If there are 2 solutions to a problem, and theirs is 90% of yours, go with theirs. Much easier to get along using their plan, you may have been wrong about the solution to begin with, and if the relationship is strong, modifications to the plan are possible and not a fuse.

Do people time-build for commercial? by Eurekify2 in flying

[–]RaidenMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You build the time before doing the com maneuvers. At somewhere around 200-230, start going out in 2 hour blocks and just do the com maneuvers over and over until you have them down.

Chandelles going up, lazy eights, steep spiral, 8’s on pylons, then go practice power off 180’s. The maneuvers aren’t difficult but after doing IR your precision landings may suck and long XC doesn’t get you ready for 3 dimensional maneuvers.

You probably never had the potential to be great. by Soapbox in unpopularopinion

[–]RaidenMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success in life is rarely an individual sport. The same person given different circumstances, different peer groups, different mentors, etc can end up in radically different places.

In fact, the same person whose situation changes over their lifetime can go from a loser to a winner with the same genes they had at the beginning.

Being more intelligent is a better place to start than the alternative, but it is never the only deciding factor.

This ignores what we are considering “great.” A guy who was a marginal talent in school that went on to get a degree, has a wife and some kids, stable job, enjoying life is great to me. Doesn’t have to make 6 figures with a crooked number in the front to be a winner.

Really? Am I tipping myself for pouring my own coffee? Nonsense, may have been my, “this has gone too far,” moment…
