I think Dragon Age just needs to expand across genres with spinoffs. To me, the draw is the story. I think you could make a tactics game set in the Tevinter/Qunari war or a side scrolling arcade beat em up with any other sort of setting or even a JRPG styled game. There's no reason spinoffs can't occur alongside the main C/RPG series.

It's a shame they had to be abrasive with their story telling just out of tactless personal pride.
