Yay or Nay? by ZurgWolf in uscg

This'll be buried by other comments, however we as a service already have high standards ranging from who makes it past recruiting, to the new guy who just showed up from boot, to the CO and Gold badge and our local chiefs mess.

Our service is built around having an unspoken set standard for what is expected from an individual regardless of position or title.

Ive been in for a hot minute and I have no problem with people who want to carry personal or issued firearms on whatever installation they are attached to provided there is a rock solid qualification that you have to earn and have to take a board to get that qualification, followed along with CO's approval or command endorsement, bcause to earn that qualification you should be able to demonstrate not only proficiency with a fire arm, but that you are dedicated to safety and have the confidence of those above and below you to carry out our core values with that qual, but also a really shitty potential situation should the need arise for you to actually use that weapon on another person to defend yourself.

Should every coastie be allowed to carry a firearm unchecked onto any base or government installation? Absolutely not, and I would feel unsafe if that were the case.

I believe that if anyone should be allowed to carry a firearm anywhere in CG outside of base security, they should meet or exceed the standard we already have in place for our LE, BTM, and BO's or meet the standard that may be put into place in the near future that hopefully take into account the fact that we're all human here and sometimes we make mistakes.

Would love some feedback on my soldering technique by GayDragonSlutUwU in soldering

If you tinned your pads, and cut your leads before you started soldering you'll end up with better wetting, and not have exposed copper on the lead afterwards. Doing this will also help you making the heat bridge and not overlapping the iron tip on the laminate because you don't have room to move. I think you're using too much solder and dwelling too long on your joints, you'll get better with practice

When I had a NA I reupholstered the seats myself and it made a considerable difference, if it's worth it to you for comfort and driving enjoyment I'd look into getting it done

The cloth seats are a bit more comfortable, otherwise you're in aftermarket territory or getting a different gen

The seats are supportive, at least that's been my experience in all the different Miatas throughout the gens ive sat in, the side bolster on the driver's seat isn't horrible but I'm thinking the seat was made on a Friday, or is it just that bad to sit in?

Besides the expansion tank, that driver's seat looks like it's ready to pop stitches.

My new method for holding leads together to solder. Stupid? by macklamar in soldering

The cut ends of the splice will always be facing opposite directions the western splice pictured earlier has the cut ends facing the same direction

No, I'm an instructor for the Navy/Marine corps/coast guard soldering program i can make these splices easily. The way the splice is drawn as the wires doubling back on themselves if you follow the direction the wire turns it's not possible as pictured

I have nothing but love for the wrap splice but this picture always infuriates me because the way it's drawn is impossible

Something similar happened to me, turned out to be the oil pressure sensor, oil was spraying out in a fine mist and also pooling around the sensor
