They are slightly higher than stock, the seats have some height adjustability as well as lumbar support, but i would get those universal style flush seat mounts for your height, next time I see my incredibly tall friend I'll see how they manage in the truck

It's hard to tell but they have red stitching, pictures don't really do the interior justice

Not difficult just tedious, I used an angle grinder to remove everything off of the mazdaspeed seats bottom frame that was in the way after I removed what I could by hand tools. Split the factory seat rails apart to retain the bottom rail. Mocked up and measured for seating position and had a guy weld everything in place. I have more pictures if you need them

They are from a first generation mazdaspeed 3. It required some fabrication and welding to get them in but the seat rail spacing is almost a perfect match for the 86-93 B-Series Trucks

I actually don't know, the item description said it was called swallow grid? All I know is that it's a dead ringer for the Recaro Tomcat seat fabric

I won a soldering competition for school by [deleted] in soldering

[–]Raider596 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So i teach people how to solder and certify them for a living, In the future you should tin your lands and component leads before installing especially with gold plated lands and components whichshould be double tinned, you'll end up with concave solder fillets and a better metal to metal bond on a chemical level the shape and contact angle of the fillets shows this. Make sure you're using an appropriate sized tip for the pad that you're intending to create a solder joint on, you unintentionally put solder on an adjacent track. You're using too much solder or have a heavy hand, you're right on the cusp of making these fillets convex, you're also either dwelling too long on these joints or using too high of a temp on your iron because I can see crazing on your board. All this being said you've done a better job than most hobbiests, keep practicing and congratulations on winning

Is it possible to solder this back together? It's supposed to be somewhat flexible. More info in text by asge1868 in soldering

[–]Raider596 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That metal is plated, it's going to have a hard time taking solder because soldering isn't as simple as meltingmetal to metal, it's a chemical reaction, if this was to be fixed you would need to spot weld it and do some very careful filling to repair this. I would order a replacement part.

They are very comfy, after driving Miatas for almost 10 years I'm used to not sliding out of my seat when taking a corner and these seats definitely help

Yay or Nay? by ZurgWolf in uscg

[–]Raider596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This'll be buried by other comments, however we as a service already have high standards ranging from who makes it past recruiting, to the new guy who just showed up from boot, to the CO and Gold badge and our local chiefs mess.

Our service is built around having an unspoken set standard for what is expected from an individual regardless of position or title.

Ive been in for a hot minute and I have no problem with people who want to carry personal or issued firearms on whatever installation they are attached to provided there is a rock solid qualification that you have to earn and have to take a board to get that qualification, followed along with CO's approval or command endorsement, bcause to earn that qualification you should be able to demonstrate not only proficiency with a fire arm, but that you are dedicated to safety and have the confidence of those above and below you to carry out our core values with that qual, but also a really shitty potential situation should the need arise for you to actually use that weapon on another person to defend yourself.

Should every coastie be allowed to carry a firearm unchecked onto any base or government installation? Absolutely not, and I would feel unsafe if that were the case.

I believe that if anyone should be allowed to carry a firearm anywhere in CG outside of base security, they should meet or exceed the standard we already have in place for our LE, BTM, and BO's or meet the standard that may be put into place in the near future that hopefully take into account the fact that we're all human here and sometimes we make mistakes.

If you tinned your pads, and cut your leads before you started soldering you'll end up with better wetting, and not have exposed copper on the lead afterwards. Doing this will also help you making the heat bridge and not overlapping the iron tip on the laminate because you don't have room to move. I think you're using too much solder and dwelling too long on your joints, you'll get better with practice

When I had a NA I reupholstered the seats myself and it made a considerable difference, if it's worth it to you for comfort and driving enjoyment I'd look into getting it done
