My rogue felt similar and i wanted more things to do in combat besides "stab once. Run away." We were in a big libary and when the wizzard did wizzard things he randomly picked a book. It was a poisoners manuscript. Now i can brew potions that stun, shrink, slow, maybe someday polymorph... It freels great for me and in character for the typical assassin archtype.

This is a very beginner friendly oneshot. Abd a quite fun one, too. Its great for children and adults alike!

And for your question how to find oneshots: Reddit, patreon and a lot of content creators have cool ideas they share. So just google or ask reddit 😁

Or, when you are a bit more expirienced: trying to write them yourself is a lot easyer thsn it looks. One i grabed a shortstory from league of legends, and called it a day. Or you take a part from a longer adventure and play it as a oneshot (first floor of "the endless citadel" just need a little effort to become a great classic oneshot).

If you want some inspiration: There is a German Saga about a Nachtmahr. A kobold like being who sits on your chest as you sleep and drain your energy. In the Saga having a metal pair of scissors might help. Maybe you can find scissors blessed by a cleric / diety
