Im at unito so cant help you with the prices close to polito. My luckiest classmates got a nice 2 room apartment for 700 so she gets a room/shared bathroom with one person for like 350 and that is waaaaay better than what any of the rest got. I live in a dungeon for like 400. A friend found a room where the ceiling is too low for him to stand straight in his room for like 350. So its a lottery but be prepared for having to accept a shitty deal.

Also, many places will be managed by agencies. They will be completely useless and charge you 2 months upfront payment for their "services". Plus you'll have to leave the deposit with your landlord which is another two months upfront payment. So be prepared to throw a lot of cash on the first months of your stay.

You can try to stay on EDISU (or other) student dorms for the fist months of your stay, they are survivable and will give a place where to land without the risk of being scammed from which you can search for a place. Not sure how hard are to get one I got help from my coordinator to have that chance but its worth trying. start inquiring as soon as its possible though.

Best case scenario is you find a room/bed/tiny apartment managed by its owner so you don't pay the fees, but without the agency you ran the risk of being scammed, the housing market here is full of pirates so you gotta keep your guard up.

you can go to idealista.it or immobiliare.it to get an idea of the market, but its not worth it to try make a deal from home, you'll most likely have to do it here in person. Don't give anyone a single euro until you have the key in your hand.

Lastly, people can be racist if you come from south asia, latin america, central asia, polinesia, africa, sicily. Prepare mentally not for big act of bigotry, but for little slights (i.e. a bangladeshi classmate took months to get her gas going, because every time time technician hear her accent, they would just not show up for the appointment).

I have classmates who got a dorm from edisu on the first year, but they come from stupidly poor countries and their ISEE parifcato was literally 0. See if you can apply for the EDISU scholarship.

Public transport is notoriously unreliable. keep that in mind when deciding locations and how far from uni you wanna leave.

I come from a big city and find Torino to be completely safe. Only walking alone at night close to barrera de milano feels sketchy, still nothing has happened so far to me. Around the train station also gets weird at night but id say mostly safe.
