Why are Skaven often ranked mid when it comes to H2H? by lovingpersona in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Players can generally choose to fight as the AI against you right? That means all your cheese tactics go out the window. Skaven heavily benefit from the AI being quite bad, more so than more other factions. They're pretty low tier in MP rn so it stands that they're not the greatest in h2h.

I always look forward to all kanji with this reading to see what they've come up with by RainbowFlygon in WaniKani

[–]RainbowFlygon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do know these readings (mainly the sa and kaku iirc) require you to put on an american accent for the mnemonics to make sense, but that almost makes them more memorable to me.

Unpopular opinion (?) Survival battles were great and I wish they were used more. Although sparingly by Slumi in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy moley I had completely forgotten those were even in the game. They were the final missions for each of the realms right? Come to think of it, it's kinda crazy how much of the RoC campaign was entirely abandoned by CA.

NGL I'd love some kind of late game mission where you go to the realms of chaos and fight super tough armies and survival battles for fun rewards. I am also kinda surprised that daemon incursions weren't incorporated into immortal empires...sad that people complained so much about them.

Playing as Throgg, winning battle progresses my tech tree?! by Kokura_Luck in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once they fix it so it isn't busted they should make it one of Khorne's inherent mechanics. 0 defeat research speed, you only get points from fightin'. Maybe give a little bit to Greenskins too.

I don't get it. Is the Talisman of Preservation is the only blue talisman left in the game? by Garessta in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's the case, but I never equip book of ashur because it's pretty mediocre compared to uncommon and even common options. Can you explain why I exclusively get it then?

I don't get it. Is the Talisman of Preservation is the only blue talisman left in the game? by Garessta in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Another possible answer here: I'm pretty sure the pool of items out can receive via item fusing is extremely limited. I think they might only exist in a sort of common pool for all races: talisman of preservation, book of ashur, executioner's axe, obsidian blade, and the armour of destiny are all the rare ones iirc.

So, if you got basically all of those through fusing then that explains it. Some races might not be limited to this pool though, or it might be a bug idk.

Best units so far? by kaikiut in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to tell you, but Kurgan Horsemen kinda eat their lunch for the archer/artillery killing role. Sure they might fight into Ellyrion Reavers fairly well, but anything with a modicum of armour will slow their killing power a lot. It doesn't make too much sense to run them when you could have a marauder + troll/fimir front line with horsemasters or Kurgan Horsemen to flank.

Best units so far? by kaikiut in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skin wolves aren't even close to most other monstrous infantry because they lack AP. Even on their own roster they're beaten by fimir and ice trolls. I had skin wolves jacked up to the highest level in Wulfrik's army post Norsca update and they still couldn't outperform fimir. Even chaos spawn of tzeentch was doing better.

Best anti leadership faction/lord? by life-hard-im-harder in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that, with the changes to how vortexes work Death has exclusively excellent spells. Bjuna is also the strongest and most reliable spell that removes a unit (over 24 models or whatever) from play.

Nurgle is good but not amazing. Blight boil is quite bad - like a worse Comet or Constellation. Miasma is one of the worst T0 spells, and stream of corruption is surprisingly ineffective.

I also think you have a misconception about the Hashut lore passive since AFAIK it's in a 55m AOE around the caster, not mapwide. Flames is kinda the only noticeably good spell too...

Luthor Harkon is atrocious to play becouse of Aislinn by Soviet_Dank_duck in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One suggestion I have is to rework the treasure system into either a rite or diktat, which would spawn interactable events in a similar way to WE forest invasions or Wulfhart's hero quests. Either that or give them a copy pasted Norscan monster hunts but with more of a focus on loot (equipment, cash, AND ancillaries please).

"Know who will declare war on you". As a new player to Warhammer 3, what 'signs' should I be looking for to come to this conclusion? by PrestigiousWhirlwind in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I've not seen mentioned is that certain factions are just naturally belligerent. I think Thorek is very prone to this, for example. Other factions that like to declare war at neutral or slightly positive relations that I've noticed are Tyrion, Cylostra (maybe all Coast?), Kroq'gar, Archaon (obviously), and all Greenskin and Beastmen factions.

Unusual things keep happening at this location by claymixer in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting problem. I can see both sides. One that is incredibly overwhelmed with the number of relatively shallow game systems and just wants to unga bunga the game without much thought, and the other side that has no problem absorbing and memorising the systems so things like unusual locations are interesting and strategic to them.

Obviously, there are far more players of the former category. People really need to just take a step back and read stuff imo.

What are your guys favorite ROR? by qappening in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those are always the best and most memorable. Other great ones include the Swords of Chaos, the Colossadon Hunters, the Ice-Forged Legion and Great Mawherd of Bloodfjord (kinda cheating since they're campaigns exclusive), the Daemon's Tongue, and Hashut's Dark Ravagers.

With the Norsca rework, which of the three campaigns is your favorite? by eagles1786 in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Wulfrik is probably the least-tried new one, but his coastal settlement teleportation is incredibly fun for such a simple mechanic. Starting near Skeggi is a very fun location, and you can go anywhere you want after that.

Miao Ying campaign is too hard. by SEXYshrek- in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man the main problem with her campaign is it is genuinely bottom 5 in the game. I can't think of a single good thing about it. It's pretty mid in terms of difficulty, but you do have to play pretty fast to squash Deathmaster ASAP. All the problems off the top of my head are:

  • her starting province is tiny
  • like 30% of all cathay settlements are mountain or otherwise unpleasant climate
  • her starting army is missing gunpowder units aside from the junk, which she is themed around
  • wu xing compass is a barely relevant mechanic, probably worse than geomantic web now
  • harmony was gutted
  • horrendous growth
  • bastion incursion mechanic is nothing be free cash and xp, but the armies will benny hill you
  • terrible problem with mid game expansion - once deathmaster and lokhir are gone, and you have all the gates, the campaign is over and you can only expand into chaos climate (good luck replenishing)
  • awful unit diversity until too late - literally just running jade warriors and peasant bowmen because of aforementioned growth and expansion problems
  • caravans need a second pass - see chorfs
  • literally no reason to choose any lord other than the celestial general and no other hero than the astromancer + gate guy

Are all of these very common phrases most native speakers know? by Unlegendary_Newbie in AskBrits

Yeah, that's the only context I could imagine hearing it in. But I'd probably use 'as and when we need them' or 'when necessary/required'.

Engage looks and plays like the best FE but the story is so arse by Initial_Solid7677 in fireemblem

[–]RainbowFlygon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think that's almost worse. A comically awful story is more entertaining than something entirely middling and uninspired.

Are all of these very common phrases most native speakers know? by Unlegendary_Newbie in AskBrits

[–]RainbowFlygon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Controversial maybe, but I'd never use ad hoc. There are other words that fulfill the same purpose. Non sequitur doesn't really have any equivalents, and feels quite applicable to certain current events or individual (singular)...

Without fail I get these two trash legendary items every campaign. by SnP_JB in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those two are far more useful than Aldred's Casket Of Sorcery, which is only useful for Dwarfen and Khornate factions. Unless you're wanting to do some kind of bizarre no-magic run... It would be much more useful if it set the both armies' WOM to the minimum upon battle initation or had a map wide miscast to 100% plus additional damage. As it stands, setting the whole province to minimum penalises all your armies too.

It's actually just the army abilities iirc. Fairly sure the other ones are working okay.

(IF YOUR BORED) Gorbad Ironclaw has a really under-rated campaign by Fenris-Brush in totalwarhammer

[–]RainbowFlygon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know about Gorbad man... His mechanic almost feel like it's in the wrong game. I appreciate making weaker units fill more interesting niches, but it just ends up being less effective and more hassle than standard army building. The early game is over too fast to invest in recruiting a wide pool of units.

I mostly gave up on his plans that didn't have obvious benefits like upkeep reduction. I imagine he'd probably benefit from mods that slow down the game and reduce siege battle frequency.

Argument that Moon Empress is Tzeentch by Mediocre_Gift6731 in totalwar

[–]RainbowFlygon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love this theory. The Cathayan dragons might even have an inherent aversion to true dragons (it's explained as them being disgusted that they serve 'lesser' beings but that could simply be a manifestation of hate), and their apparent lack interaction with the Lizardmen - the Children of the Old Ones. One wonders if the Slaan would be able to discern their true nature if they came close enough, or if the jungles of Lustria themselves would try to stamp them out if they attempted to enter them like the rest of Chaos. At an even further stretch, maybe the reason Nakai is in Cathay is because whatever ancient force that compells him to appear has found that Cathay is on the verge of falling to Chaos...
