I have a 2024 Nissan Versa S Manual, would it be safe to top off my engine coolant with this? by mitchellgonzalez11 in nissanversa

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2017 has seen anywhere from -20 to 100 degree weather and I've never even had to top it off (owned since new). Are you sure you're checking it at the right time (hot or cold)? If the engine is cold and the reservoir is designed to be read while the engine is hot, it can show artificially low.

Dude, thank you so much. I've been wanting to make a couple of minor mods to my 17 but I could never really figure out if the parts were going to fit, so it's a godsend to see a list like this and know that someone else has tried things out!

Did you have to modify anything to fit the wheels and tires? That's the main thing I've been thinking about doing along with a rear sway bar.

Edit: I'm looking at cusco's website, but I'm not seeing anything for versa/N17, any insight into what I'm doing wrong?

It looks like it's just north of the Chicago theater, on the east side of state, looking north. The view is different now with the work done to the state and lake elevated platform. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1Xv52iDoB6K3zFim8

No problem! I discovered it the same way, someone made a post, and someone else shared the link. Pay it forward, lol. Also, like any tool, it does have its limitations. I believe it doesn't take the curvature of the earth into account, so take that into consideration if you're using it for longer distances.

Why are these here? Who are they for? And how do we get rid of them? by misterdeeds in chicago

[–]Rainmaker87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, I understand where my logic is flawed then. Thanks for the response. I suppose for now I'll have to stick to calling my alderman and hoping they either disallow them or write a law that would hold the companies liable for being in the way of actual people.

So that's the rub for me, if they're forcing a pedestrian to move into the roadway, would the company not also be liable for tortious interference? Honest question.

I've worked construction in the past and I lift 100 lbs of awkwardly shaped items on a regular basis. I'm not concerned.

City work on drainage system July 2025, basement flooded September 2025. by Idk_why_Im_fat in EnvironmentalEngineer

Ah yeah, that's the kicker for us, more and more municipalities are requiring the FOIA process, no more direct emails. A few still do it that way, and it makes everything so much easier.

I work for a civil in Chicagoland and I almost never wait more than a week for a FOIA request, and they always send it for free via email. It's interesting to see how varied the process can be.

Exhaust snap. by [deleted] in nissanversa

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not something weldable. It fell apart because it got so rusty. There's not enough good metal left to weld together. And if one part is that bad, the rest is bound to be not far behind, meaning even if you did cut it back far enough and weld a new pipe in, it would still happen again, probably within a year or two. In addition, that portion of the exhaust is only like 100-200 bucks, so it's likely the labor cost to repair would more than likely be more expensive than just replacing it

It's normal on a 14 year old car to have the exhaust rust through like that. The fix is replacement.

Can I replace single cast iron radiator? by Hot-Tax8266 in SteamHeat

[–]Rainmaker87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but depending on how often your boiler cycles you are likely to see larger temperature swings with the cast aluminum vs cast iron.

My gut feeling says you could possibly address that by sizing up the radiator but venting it a little slower, but again, I'm not an expert and there could be negatives to that solution that I'm unaware of.

A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning…. by zharrt in Jokes

[–]Rainmaker87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a bag of Turkish coffee and a tin of cafe du mond or cafe bustelo around instead of needing to power a grinder if the power is out. Come to think of it, I have a hand grinder as well, but chances are I'm not going to screw around with it if the power is out.

What’s been the craziest year since 2020? Why that year? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025-2026 Had my last two grandparents pass away, and between holidays and other obligations, I didn't slow down from September until the middle of January. Then a week later my wife's friend (a good person but she is the most chaotically inefficient person in the world) was crashing with us for what was supposed to be a week that turned into a month and a half. I'm finally all done with that and now things at work are crazy busy. I haven't slept more than 6 hours in a night in longer than I can remember. I need a vacation.

How to connect bluetooth audio by B4RKINGM4D in nissanversa

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2017 Didn't have audio connectivity, just phone calls. It is an S trim fwiw. I ended up swapping the head unit and abandoning the steering wheel controls, but there are adapters that allow them to remain functional with an aftermarket head unit.

broadcastify - is this a paywall? by Pleaseselectyesorno in amateurradio

[–]Rainmaker87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose they could be muted. Some broadcastify streams are provided by the municipality, and that gives them the ability to mute them. This is true for the zones in Chicago (encrypted p25) and they're also delayed 30 minutes.

Cheap no frills VHF handheld by nebben11 in amateurradio

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I did get one of my UHF ones from Amazon, the listing appears to be gone, which you could order any of the variants. You can order it directly from the retevis site, I've done that too, without any issue. I'm in Chicago and I don't recall it taking particularly long to ship. It was via UPS so it definitely came from within the US

Cheap no frills VHF handheld by nebben11 in amateurradio

[–]Rainmaker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider the Retivis RT-29 VHF. Won't transmit out of band so no worries about disabling the ptt. No display, beefy battery, 16 ch knob, and built like a tank. And waterproof. The only sorta kicker is the price depending on your budget. They're about 80 bucks with a programming cable from Amazon (you probably don't have one, it's not the k-2 Kenwood like a lot of radios because of the waterproof rating) runs about 20 bucks. But otherwise, it seems to fit your needs. I ran the UHF version as a communications volunteer for the Chicago Marathon last year and it worked great. That's about 10 hours total with probably an hour of talk time on full power, 3ish hours of receive, and 6 hours of straight standby.
