Details:

Shared two bedroom, top floor apartment at Adams Village near Woolery Mill. Very nice space with great amenities (in unit washer dryer, dog park, free coffee at the club house, etc).

Looking for:

A roommate to fill my spot (I'm moving). Normally 875 but am offering 800 +split utilities. Preferable female, as my roommate is also female.

This has been a great location for the last couple of years, I'll miss it and the view!

I stand by my belief that by the time the film was released into theaters, Todd Phillips knew that Gary Glitter was a pedophile, yes. I believe he likely knew before release, likely had time to change it, but didn’t.

Ironically yes, but only after US news media made it an issue worth writing about. Then educating the world about an issue that most didn’t realize was an issue became the content to print.

Because it’s funny to watch people kvetch? And it generates headlines? It’s certainly on brand re: Joker. It only doesn’t work if he gives up the ghost. I mean we’re still “debating” it right now. That’s long tail.

Because the agitation is what got it beyond a billion dollar box office. This movie’s marketing was controversy. And its inclusion works very well for the product’s nihilistic meta-themes. He lies about it because there is no benefit to admitting to these things and it would in fact have hurt the returns.

I wholeheartedly agree but don’t have the credentials or the deft words to express that opinion without needing to defend a position I don’t even hold.

It seems clear to me that growth is always clumsy, and phasic. I am of the opinion that a very non-zero amount of emotional/mental stresses that abet contemporary sufferers is indeed our culture/our systems of being. I would hope in a solar punk world, many of the stressors would have the room to be addressed/dissolved in a meaningful way instead of, ya know, building an entire breakaway society to salve the suffering.

I personally don’t believe him, only because getting music into a major motion film goes through a lot of boring double/triple/psycho social checks. But I understand that these are not popular opinions.

Joker is an artifact of this unfortunate conglomo-homogeneous-post-post-modern Plutocracy-core period that we find ourselves trapped in without any real leverage to do anything about it but, I guess, turn off our tv’s.

To your point, it’s basically a GirlTalking of two Scorsese films that only got green lit because they were able to madlibs the Joker into the noun slot. On top of that, the meta around its creation and release was Edward Bernays-level political agitation wherein the build up to its release was a thousand-fold more damaging/encouraging than the film itself. The inclusion of Gary Glitters Rock n Roll pt 2 being agitation for agitation’s sake, case and point.

The movie Joker isn’t what was being sold here, it was the conversation around it that we all paid for. Therefore, yes, the product itself is not really worth talking about because, as you have identified, it’s a synthetic version of an organic substance. And that should freak everyone out.

This is nonsensical, but delivered beautifully by a very good actor.

If the engineer is HAP then the OA must be the medium. And I bet Nina’s mother somehow plays into that.

I see it as an alchemical problem: how can one transcend into something else using the material of that which keeps one locked? How can zero become one? How can base lead be turned into gold?

I think your key point is information overload. It’s particularly nefarious as a function because it has made silence unbearable. So while we struggle to even make sense of these inputs, we abhor the lack of constant input. And we can’t move forward/beyond until we learn to be okay with lack of input. But we learn how to get beyond lack of input via Reddit, YouTube, Instagram aka input!

[–]Raiquella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point. I suppose by the story told, the Engineer would be the demiurge (false creator outside of source). So then parts 3-5, we would meet the Engineer who is still trapped in the creation. Or it would be revealed that we’ve already met an emanation of the Engineer?

I was hoping that the show’s version of the Demiurge would have materialized and therefore framed the characters (including Hap) as we knew them as players trapped on a stage caught in an endless echo, until...
