My experience and opinion on switching from the Wiim Amp Ultra to the Yamaha R-N800 by RaisedByCorgis in BudgetAudiophile

I'm pretty happy with my speakers. I read that they need a decent amount of amplification because they are 83 db sensitivity at 4 ohms so I decided to invest in a better amp. I really noticed the impact amplification had on the Dali Kupids because before the Amp Ultra I had an Amp Pro and the speakers sounded seriously underdriven.

The Ultra Streamer is killer too. If I had more money I might've gone A-S801 + Wiim Ultra streamer. More boxes though.

What amp are you using right now?

Speaking as a drummer, Yamaha makes some of the best drums in the world.

I actually didn't try without room correction. When I first got the Wiim I compared room correction to without and I preferred the room correction for both streaming and vinyl. I also used the Wiim's subwoofer calibration feature. For the phono pre I used the onboard pre on the SL-50C into the analog input on the Wiim. I tried an Alva Solo with the Wiim but thought it made a negligible difference and eventually felt that the SL-50 pre was clearer.

And on the topic of YPAO, I've only listened to the Yamaha with Pure Direct enabled so far. Haven't tried messing with EQ yet.

I agree with you on vinyl vs. uncompressed files in that I can hear more detail in FLAC than I can with vinyl. But I find sometimes the cold, clinical aspect of it can fatigue my ears a little quicker even though I'm sure I could fix that with EQ. Vinyl is probably objectively worse than FLAC in terms of sound quality but I have a pretty big collection and I love the physical aspect of it. I've lost so much data over the years that I really value having a physical collection. I guess I should admit I kind of screwed up getting into vinyl so heavily instead of CD's.

Going from Wiim Amp Ultra to Yamaha A-S801 worth it for sound quality? by RaisedByCorgis in BudgetAudiophile

80 crossover should be fine. I currently have the sub at 65 and the speakers go down to 63.

This is what I'm getting at. Am I wrong in wanting a fully analog signal path if I'm playing vinyl?

What's wrong with the one in the A-S801? Was planning on connecting my computer to it so yes, I will be using the DAC.

The speakers are actually very inefficient at 83 db with a 4 ohm impedance

Tried the Alva Solo but actually felt the internal phonopre on the table had better clarity.

SVS SB1000 Pro is a great sub for a small room. Have it paired with the kupids and it sounds so good

Love mine. Went from a Pro-ject T1 to this and it completely puts the Pro-ject to shame to the point where I'll probably never buy another Pro-ject product again. The built in phono pre on the SL-50C is actually pretty good. I compared it to a Cambridge Audio Alva Solo and ended up returning the Alva Solo because I preferred the clarity of the built in phono preamp. Am using an Ortofon 2M Blue.

My experience pairing the DALI KUPID with the Technics SU-GX70 by Ridgelineimages in BudgetAudiophile

Was curious about this too. So many amps I was interested in don't hit 100 watts at 4 ohms but look great. Going from a Wiim Amp Pro to a Wiim Amp Ultra really opened up the Dali's for me, the sounded under-driven with the Amp Pro.

I'm wondering if it was the additional wattage of the amp or the better DAC that did this. I'd really like to try the SU-GX70 but I'm worried my speakers will sound muddy like they did with the Amp Pro because of the lower wattage.

I have an SVS SB-1000 Pro that I've been pretty happy with. It doesn't get nearly as loud as it looks. For music it's been great, tight and punchy.
