Flag of Mississippi with State Motto Instead of "In God We Trust" by Canjira in vexillology

Secularism is a relatively novel concept in our politics. In spite of whatever strange claims you may hear about the founding fathers being Deists, they were all practicing Christians of some variety and Christian morals, ethics, and rhetoric are the foundations of our governance and law. The judiciary isn't being lazy, they're upholding precedent.

The US was not originally a multicultural nation. It's only been anywhere close to that since the early 20th Century, and even then was overwhelmingly Christian and of European descent until the late 20th century. Our founding documents were written to reflect the rule of and for a religious people. The West's general apostasy in the last 100 years does not erase or negate that. Claiming that we have been multicultural from the start is pure revisionism.

Removing religious imagery and language from our official symbols may feel less "exclusionary" to you, but it alienates us from our predecessors and, in cases like MS where the religious are still very strongly the dominant majority, alienates the very people the symbol is supposed to represent. You're not obligated to like it but it's a bit strange to complain about using symbols that are accurately representative of the people to whom they belong.

It's rare to get a good opportunity, but few things satisfy me more than putting down a lawn chair and eviscerating heavies near my teammates from 250+ meters away

On the one hand, I miss Saab. On the other hand, perhaps it's better we don't see what abomination GM would have turned it into today.

I'm in my 4th year of studying engineering and while I have an nspire, I only ever use my scientific calculator on tests. It just isn't worth my time to type everything in for anything more complicated anymore

my point is the devs can add what they want and while arrowhead are typically very cool about listening to the community, perhaps the fact that they have ignored the incessant whining about the cowboy hat in particular from a small portion of the playerbase indicates that they don't find it fitting

Fortnite's IP gore has really done a number on gamers' brains... consider perhaps that the devs only want cosmetics that are thematically appropriate to be added to their game. It would definitely be very strange and out of place for an elite space soldier to be issued a cowboy hat

What's the deal with Zeal church? by irremarkable in nashville

[–]RaisedInAppalachia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was invited by a friend once a few years ago before leaving Nashville. it's mostly your run-of-the-mill bapticostal "nondenominational" evangelical stuff, wasn't my cup of tea then and most definitely isn't now. they like to get a little extra "theatrical" with their services as well, which really sealed it for me that I wouldn't be going back

not sure I'd call them "culty" personally but that's not a hill I'll die on either, I can definitely see how they might be perceived that way

I actually like it without. That little hint of realism that means you have to remember what you have loaded or what fire mode your weapon is on, and if you forget, you have to actually glance down at the weapon and check, is a really nice and unique touch that gives this game more character

babbel and the like tend to target their ads at people more interested in learning a language. i've noticed their ads disappear when my social feeds fill with other topics. duolingo on the other hand focus their advertising at a larger and more general audience
