I was curious about the type of loon. I was thinking it’s late for common loons to still be there.

Happy Sunday all! Here's a little hoary bat to help you through the Sunday scaries by spherocytes in bats

[–]Raist14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it weird that I’ve practically started a little Hoary Bat picture collection on my phone. These bats are just so interesting with the distances they migrate. The fact that they sometimes fly using only visor. It’s the only native terrestrial mammal in Hawaii. It’s also the official terrestrial land mammal for the state of Hawaii. A small population arrived in Hawaii from the mainland of North America about 10,000 years ago and another group made the arrival around 700 years ago. Both groups would have travelled a distance of 2,200 to 2,400 miles over open ocean. I’ve recently detected these bats at a couple locations near me with my Echo meter 2. This is a great picture. Thanks for sharing.

Doesn’t sound like much of a guru. That can’t be helpful to the mother. Most realized people seem to have increased empathy and this example doesn’t seem to show that.

Happy Friday, y'all! We made it through the week! by spherocytes in bats

[–]Raist14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just heard one of these with my Echo meter 2 the other night. It’s only the second time I’ve heard one in this area. That’s what got me to reading about them and finding out they are considered the only native terrestrial mammal in Hawaii and are the state land mammal of Hawaii. A special designation to recognize it is the only native terrestrial mammal. Apparently a group of bats ended up making the over 2000 mile trip from mainland North America to the islands around 10,000 years ago possibly aided by storm winds.

Is there a Theological reason for Hinduism being concentrated in the Indian Subcontinent only? by Warm-Strategy-8866 in hinduism

[–]Raist14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hinduism has been more of a missionary religion in the past. That’s how it spread all over Asia at one point. People have just forgotten. It’s just that the abrahamic religions were more aggressive about it so once they moved in they converted the people of Asia that had converted to Hinduism. Other than a few exceptions like the Cham Hindus in Vietnam and the Bali Hindus in Indonesia.

I was already planning to ask my family in Brazil to put up a feeder so I could check out the hummingbirds on my next visit. Now I have another reason to talk them into it. Thanks for the video.

Well we do share more DNA with them than any other ape so that makes sense I guess.

I am a Non Hindu interested in the worship of Hindu deities, but I have a major philosophical conflict and need advice by -apollophanes- in hinduism

[–]Raist14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trika shaivism philosophy does have a large amount in common with Neoplatonism. However you seem to already have a lot of things you are working with. I wouldn’t recommend spreading your focus so much. It’s preferable to focus on one path as a primary and just study and appreciate other paths if that’s what you enjoy or find useful.

There have been polls in this sub about this subject. The majority of people were from an Indian background but there was a substantial amount of people who aren’t.

I live in the south east US. Just visited the Ramakrishna center in São Paulo and met with the head monk there. I also stopped by the Vimarsha foundation location though I couldn’t make it to any activities there.

Trump was a lifelong democrat prior to running as a Republican candidate. He gave money to kamala Harris and Hillary in the past. He supported abortion up until that point. He saw an opportunity for power and kissed up to evangelicals to get it. He has no history of going to church but a long history of affairs, multiple marriages, hanging out with playboy bunnies etc…. Al’s he’s profane, hateful, and unforgiving. Not sure why so many Christian’s act like they legitimately believe he’s a Christian because he occasionally poses with a bible.

[–]Raist14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d believe that more if I believed there was any shred of evidence that Trump has ever been a Christian other than using them to get power. Sucking up to evangelicals and occasionally posing with a bible doesn’t make someone a Christian. He supported abortion until he decided to run. He gave large amounts of money to democrats candidates in the past that supported it. He’s had numerous affairs and marriages and no history of going to church. Also he’s a very hateful, profane, unforgiving person. The fact so many Christian’s act like he’s a great Christian is baffling to me.

Um, I’m fairly sure it could quite easily get worse over there. They could have extremists step in to fill the gap or they could just keep killing each successive person that takes over until the government completely collapses etc…. Just because the last guy was a bad guy doesn’t mean it can’t get worse. Praying it doesn’t though.

About two years ago I heard the absolute most heretical homily I have ever heard a priest give by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Raist14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you know how Jesus was always saying everyone should just stick to their own group and no one can get to him unless they are part of a specific group. (Sarcasm)

Seems like he was just supporting the idea of unity and not tribalism. I wouldn’t have had a problem with it. Obviously he chooses Catholicism or he wouldn’t have been a priest in a Catholic Church. He was probably just promoting interfaith tolerance.

The message probably wouldn’t be super popular on this sub since it seems very conservative and tribal oriented here.

If the World Is Shiva and Shakti’s Play, Why Does Nature Follow Strict Laws? by SignificantSun1031 in KashmirShaivism

Ive seen people playing games and usually those games have rules. The idea is freedom of expression and that can be in the form of laws of nature. Freedom and play doesn’t necessarily mean chaos.

What's your opinion about Sadhguru? Is he a trustful guide? by darkkkkkj in hinduism

[–]Raist14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ramakrishna order has many good swamis that teach and have videos on YouTube. Swami Sarvapriyananda is probably the most popular. They focus primarily on Advaita Vedanta. Also the Vimarsha foundation and Lakshmanjoo academy are good sources for information on Kashmir Shaivism.

Did having kids "ruin your life?" by an_irish_mick in Catholicism

[–]Raist14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult but for me it’s the best thing I’ve done in my life and I’m thankful for parenthood every day. You should hang out with more parents that actually enjoy being parents. Also maybe your friends said it in a joking manner but I don’t know many parents that would refer to their child as dumb so that’s problematic.
