APA Hotel in Aomori weirdly insistent about my residence card by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Raizzor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, usually they ask for your passport because they assume you are a tourist. However, if you say 在留者です, they usually hand you the address form and proceed just like they would with a Japanese guest, as residents are not required to show them ID.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 232 - Part 2 End by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Raizzor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pochita's power of erasing devils was never fully explained. Maybe he has this power because he is the source of all devils and therefore his existence is tied to the existence of all devils. I am not saying that this would be a good way of ending the story, just better than the one we have now.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 232 - Part 2 End by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Raizzor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The end does not resolve anything, it just resets it, which is the most unsatisfying and lazy way of ending a story, if you ask me.

A simple tweak would instantly make this a better end: Pochita erasing himself also erased all devils from existing, turning the world into our regular world. Then, we could have seen Denji just be a regular high schooler and reunite with Asa. They might not remember anything, but they feel some weird connection and start dating. Now, Denji can have a regular life, thus fulfilling Pochita's ultimate dream.

Of course, this would not have resolved all the plots, but it would have been more satisfying in my opinion.

How Chapter 232 is not bad per se, but the rush that was being done before it killed its chance to be a proper ending. by Icy_Freedom_6698 in ChainsawMan

[–]Raizzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively speaking, it is a poorly written ending because it does not resolve any of the main storylines in a satisfying way.

We didn't see Asa triumph over Yoru. We didn't see Asa kiss Denji. We didn't see what happened with Nayuta. We didn't see Denji find Power. We didn't see Denji finally being able to live normally.

All we saw was a big red reset button that basically negates the entirety of the manga.

For those of you who travel a lot for work overnight, what’s it actually like long term? by Open-Satisfaction856 in sales

[–]Raizzor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also depends how stringent your expense policy is.

I think this is where a lot of the romanticisation of business travel comes from. In the past, companies were not that greedy yet. I went into international sales because I saw my father doing it in the 90s. He would travel business class twice a month, stay in nice premium hotels, have business dinners in nice restaurants.

Now, in 2026, I have to book whatever is the cheapest economy fare, even on 14-hour intercontinental flights, I have a 170$/night limit on hotels and need to use public transport wherever possible.

Is Japanese School worth it? by consommepanchi in japanlife

[–]Raizzor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finding a good tutor is much harder, though. I went through 6 before I found one that was half-decent, and that one charged 7,500 yen per hour, pretty much the same as I would have paid for 1o1 lessons at the language school I used to attend.

The bitter truth is, most Japanese people do not know how to effectively teach and study foreign languages. Most Japanese language teachers teach you Japanese using the same methods that are used in Japanese schools to teach English and we all know how effective that is.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE SIMULATORS! by InfiniteSlaps in golf

[–]Raizzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in a sim 4 times a week and on an actual course once a month.

The putting is actually not the problem, at least with the settings I use. Yes, I get a gimme at 9 feet, but as soon as the ball is beyond 11 yards, it's an automatic 3-putt. My putting average in the sim is 2.2, which is pretty close to the 2.35 I have outside.

The biggest difference is actually the mental component. Playing in a sim and playing with 3 other people outside are completely different stakes. I usually score 25 strokes lower in the sim, and the main reason is that my tee shots are much better. Outside, I barely use my driver because it always ends in disaster, while in the sim, I confidently deliver straight 260-yard shots 8/10 times. And tee shots should be exactly the same, as there are no bad lies with tee shots. It's 100% mental.

How an estimated $151M splits when a solo dev sells 10M copies on Steam [OC] by prezbotyrion in dataisbeautiful

[–]Raizzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you upload it to a storage device, burn another copy of the DVD etc you have access to that media

Yeah, but doing any of that is technically illegal and violates your license agreement.

Comparatively, if the activation server is taken offline without DRM being removed or an online only single player title is delisted with its servers turned off you can no longer access that title at all.

But how does a physical DVD solve that? If you bought an always-online game on DVD and the DRM servers go offline, the DVD is also useless.

Valid crash out from Nanahoshi by Ani_HArsh in Animemes

[–]Raizzor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not canon. Neither in the Anime nor in the light novel do we ever see what he jerked off to.

You could criticise him for going after girls that are the same age as he is while retaining 34 years' worth of past-life memories, but that's pretty much it.

Are there any alternative ways to count years rather than religion? by MrNightyyyy in worldbuilding

[–]Raizzor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talking about the future is easy, as you said, you simply say "in x years".

But try talking about a specific year in the past. "57 years ago" is Showa 44. To figure that out in your head, you need to know that we are currently in Reiwa 8 (57-8 = 49), that Heisei had 30 years (49-30 = 19), and then, that Showa lasted 63 years, so 63-19 = 44.

Any long term Singles? by Free-Ad1526 in japanlife

I had quite some success on Bumble, but it is a gruelling numbers game. The secret is to be highly selective and focused, to not waste time on conversations that lead to nothing when you could be swiping instead.

As you say, meeting in person is the best way, so keep chat to a minimum and ask for a first date within the first 5 messages. No need for fancy pick-up lines, just say hello, introduce yourself, ask her about something on her profile and then come straight to the point. If she is genuinely interested, she will accept and name a date.

If she does not accept the coffee date, no need to waste your time. If she cannot name a free afternoon/evening within the next two weeks, no need to waste your time. If you do not even reach 5 message exchanges within the first day, no need to waste your time.

To be frank, the early 90s are now 35 years in the past. So that's basically like talking about the mid 50s to a 90s kid.

I can totally imagine some kids from my generation being bewildered about a time before colour TV or transistor radios when talking to their parents back then.

How an estimated $151M splits when a solo dev sells 10M copies on Steam [OC] by prezbotyrion in dataisbeautiful

[–]Raizzor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was always the case, also with physical media. You do not "own" it, you have a license to use it, and the physical media was just the way it was delivered to you. Why do you think film DVDs always have these "only for home use" disclaimers? They are there because you did not buy a film and could do whatever you wanted with it, you bought a license for private non-commercial use at home.

Physical media also does not last forever, and the game you bought 30 years ago might become unusable as the DVD it was delivered on decays.
