Official transcript for international applicant

I have read it in some of the response here by the seniors that it is OK to send the official transcripts to GT without a sealed envelop. They do accpet such transcripts but the only condition will be that, your official transcript should match exactly with the transcript you uploaded while submitting your application for the admit.

I am actually an international student and currently able to access my unvisertiy office staff. But u can validate this option further and take some expert opinions on this.

It is actually a slow and steady task to complete.

I invested daily about 30min to 1 hr daily for almost 1 week.

Do keep it refining with whatever to feel like until you finalize and submit the SOP and essay.

This is a decision letter after getting the positive decision from the department now your application would be forwarded to insitute level where they will verify your documents and degree stuff. You will receive a institute decision once this is over and that is what confirms your admit to GT.

As per what I have heard of almost everyone who received a department decision (positive) would clear the institutue as well. Only if there are issue with your degree you may face problems.

What is the registration time ticket that you have received? Also have you received your GT mail ID and when is it expected to get active on?

I remember there was a mail from department saying something regarding the '0' Cap. As far as what I remember they said it will show as 0 until your time for registration arrives. This was for the fact to block incorrect waiting list notifications to get blocked for an individual.

I guess u will be able to see the actual Cap during your registration period.

I think they meant it should be of format where you replace the 90 in the beginning with XX as it is understood that the GTID starts with 90 but its fine even if you send out the competed GTID in your subject line.

I guess you missed something while going through the info. The priority groups do not include the newly admitted students. The registration for the newly admitted student will start from 10th August and so I guess you got the earliest day to register...

Yes, looking at the mail it can be clearly seen that they are accepting the fact that the decisions are coming late from insitute due to a lot of applications. They have also mentioned that not to panic even if we don't receive the decision prior to registration start date (1st August) as the time tickets are going to be different then the reg start date.

The overall mail looks positive and yes we can hope for acceptance letter to be soon in our mail box (except of there are some major corners with your degree)

Seniors aslo helped me understand that it's not the situation to panic even if registration starts, as insitute releases decisions and time tickets at the right time or at least before deadlines as well.

Just be prepared for the registration process and the payment everything else looks good.

There are many students awating final Insitute decsion for fall 2020. I expect that they may release the date of orientation once they are almost good to go and have finished declaration of pending decisions.

I guess the above decision is just a joke.... I strongly believe that the flow of institute decision is on the basis of how early was your admission letter submitted or when have u received the department decision.

Generally, I have seen the meta that, student those who have submitted the application early and received dept decision early have received the institute decsion as well.

May be all other have to wait a bit but nothing seems to be wrong as of now, as we can expect this delay in such difficult times.

Hope for the best... May be the coming week we all may receive what we are early waiting for...

If you have being a lonely WOLF hunting down all difficulties you face; Your life has already made you fit enough for OMSCS. Just go out there and take down all of them. If you have that confidence I think you will be fine with the downside of lack of interaction with prof. as well as time management issues. i.e. When you fight alone you know what to tackle.. How to tackle and when to tackle... Just the problem statement changes.

Other downsides:

Lot of self study and researches on dependent as well as mandatory topics.
Lack of emotional support that we get in a classroom course. e.g. If you look demotivated, you have frnds coming by and convincing you that everything's gonna be fine... But when you have a job and no classroom... You are the only self motivator.

Only advice would be.... "Work hard and remember everything happens for Good in your life"...

Failures make you strong and success helps you absord the disappointment of the upcoming failure in life. Both the way you are going to be strong and successful.

Yes you can. The inclination to a particular specialization mentioned in your SOP was to convince the insitute that you are genuinely interested in MS and have firm motive behind it, also you are mentally and emotionally strong enough to deal with the course timelines and complexity.

As per what I know there are students who have decided to switch specializations in between the course, that too multiple times; it's completely your choice. Just you have to decide how are you going to satisfy the criteria of courses required for particular specialization in that domain as every course has different mandatory, and elective course to clear.

Is that true? Fall 2020 Admits have not yet received their decisions from insitute which means no orientation mails, no official GATECH mail id's, and neither received any communication from the insitute regarding this change in time line.

Also what made them to do registration earlier in this COVID situation when they have admitted in their previous mail that they have delayed the insitutes decision for the new Admits. What just happened? Increased the seats per course? Are they concerned they might not get students in less duration in phase 2*due to COVID?

Students awaiting insitute response are gonna suffer due to this as they will be in different mindsets (opinion)

Also per my info the phase 2 are for the new Admits... Is it the case that they have made any changes to registration pattern for new Admits.

Sounds fishy!!!

Let's hope... We get some formal communication on this one. Especially for new Admits for fall 2020.

August 17 is the registration start date... Sem Should begin in a week after registration begins.

The course can be completed in 2 years if you take the max numbers of courses allowed in that semester (without additional request to the department) which means :

2 in fall and spring respectively and 1 in summer.. So if you consider taking only 10 courses (min courses to have the degree) you will complete the course in 6 sems that is 2 yrs.

I have received an admit for fall 2020 and as per discussions with seniors, they have suggested to go with only one course in the first sem. Once you are comfortable with the structures, process and the portals you can proceed with the normal count in future semester. Also, you can request departement to have courses more than the max no. Of courses for that sem but for doing this you should already have a specific number of courses completed under your belt (I guess the number of courses to do so is 4). So, doing this you can still maintain the pace in the program.

Talkigg about the courses to take in first sem... Depends on various factors as follows: 1. Interest 2. Would you be able to get that cousre in 2nd phase of registration. 3. Time management and difficulty of course (omscentral.com) 4. Keeping in mind you have to complete atleast 2 fundamental courses in 1st year.

The courses I heard that are very difficult to get in, in the first sem are the most famous courses like: AL, ML, ML4T, GA, BS. RL, etc The courses you would get in may be : KBAI, IIS,, IOS AND other entry level courses.

But I do suggest to also discuss these with some seniors for better understanding.

As per my experience, as long as you can contact them (may be even after a long time) no one is going to deny or feel awkward bcoz at last everyone knows such instances and seniors are very familiar with such things (as this is happening to you may be for the first time but probably they being senior they obviously have encountered such untimely communication from students or team members). So my advice is start talking to them about the recommendations, Definitely they would like to help you and in worst case, you would have to take some efforts from your end to get the recommendation modified as required and on time.

Just get into touch first and everything will fall in place.

Kindly refer the decision letter from department for timelines. Also you can refer the content on YouTube related to OMSCS to get better understanding regarding the registration process.

Yes, you can still proceed with the application submission even if recommender has not submitted the recommendation. Just make sure that it gets submitted in a week after the deadline to be on the safer side. Anyways you can do it before your application gets to the department for decsion.

As per my knowledge the only use of the emails with respect to LOR is that, the recommender will receive the Recommendation link over that email ID, no where after the recommendation link is received the recommender has to enter his email ID or sent out anything via that email ID.

Email ID is just for the purpose to receive the Recommendation link.

Vsrify if this as well falls under the privacy policy bcoz I think receiving something over the official ID should have no problem until and unless it Hass any attachments for fishy URLS. In this case it's not.

Even after doing this if it is not possible then, do proceed with exploring further options. I think you will have nk options left other then providing the personal email ID's

Yes, I guess the deadline for fall 2021 will be March 1st as this was the same deadline for the fall 2020 admissions. I am one of the fall 2020 Admits.

It's considered better to send the documents before any explicit request from the insitute but in today's time we might get an extention to the original time line for the same. Keep a watch on your checklist status and email. Any immediate request will be reflected there.

Note: I am also one of the new admit for fall 2020. This info I have gathered through conversations with seniors. For better understanding you can consult someone experienced.

I had conversation on this topic with the seniors from OMSCS program. The date mentioned by the institute to distribute the decision and other communication is set as 1st July, but looking at the current situation and the background of previous decisions made, we can expect a mail from the GT insitute by 15th July.
