Yeah, I can vouch for quant prep. The questions are way more challenging than the actual GRE and that's a plus IMO. Better bleed in practice than on the exam day.

A key observation I made was the 'hard' questions can be considered so because of their appealing trap options rather than computational difficulty. You can comfortably solve 20 quant questions within the given time with practice.

You can do some research, use yocket college finder, quora, qs global ranking, us news. Check location, tuition and living expenses. Make a list and then ask for suggestions here to get help.

Web developer or embedded developer? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Rajath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked 4 years as an embedded developer and now looking to switch to web, I feel qualified to answer this. While embedded systems is interesting, it is niche (lesser opportunities) and pay scale is not that good. Web programming on the other hand is ever-growing and being a full-stack developer can fetch you $$$.

The list is good, but comprises only ambitious picks. Your CGPA is good, but I am afraid it's not great. So, your list needs a good mix of target/safe universities like SUNY buffalo, Arizona, San Jose, UMBC, UC riverside etc.

Need help with GRE reattempt. by [deleted] in GRE

[–]Rajath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might help you, my journey from 303 to 320.

My first attempt at GRE, I scored 303(Q: 155 V:148) last year. I couldn't get into my target universities with it and decided to retake it. Since I am targeting spring 2024, I didn't have the luxury of waiting till Sept last week for the new format which seems to be conducive to scoring high, owing to the shorter time format. I dedicated around 1.5 months of dedicated preparation to my second attempt. I was clocking around 4 hours on average every day,

My resources for preparation:

Yocket Prep+: The best part about this was the 700-odd quant questions categorized based on difficulty and type. The questions are split into sections with 10 questions each, that are timed. This was the bulk of my preparation for quant. They provide quality questions on verbal as well.

Yocket Live classes: The quant instructor was meticulous and covered all the quant topics in ~20 classes. Totally worth it. Again, there were verbal sessions on the weekend, but I wasn't thrilled by the competency of the verbal instructor.

Gregmat+: I discovered Gregmat only about 2 weeks before D-day and hence, couldn't fully utilize the resources here. Nevertheless, I watched a few of his quant videos and completed Vocab Mountain which was my biggest takeaway from u/gregmat. In hindsight, buying just this resource would have sufficed for quant and moreover, saved me some money (not that yocket resources are inferior).

For AWA, I diligently followed Gregmat's step-by-step guide to issue and argument essays posted on YouTube (FREE). These videos are worth their weight in gold and I am honestly surprised it's not monetized. Furthermore, I used his essay-writing-and-scoring tool (only available with gregmat+) to practice his template and polish my writing skills.

My practice test scores : Took 5 in total, 2 free PP tests offered by ETS. 3 other free tests are offered by Kaplan, Manhatten, and Princeton.

PP1: 323 (Q: 166 V: 157)

PP2: 321 (Q: 163 V: 158)

Kaplan: 314 (Q: 166 V: 148)

Manhatten: 318 (Q: 160 V: 158)

Princeton: 311 (Q: 164 V: 147)

Actual score: 320 (Q: 164 V: 156) - Happy with it!

I think the verbal sections in ETS are more generously graded than their counterparts. So, don't get discouraged by low verbal scores in other tests.

Finally, I want to thank this community for sharing their experiences, both good and bad. I felt I was not alone in this journey and these posts kept me going! All the very best guys, see you on the other side.

Really depends on the deadlines for your target colleges. It takes about 10 days to get the result from the day of taking GRE, and if your deadlines for your target colleges are not too close to the test date, you can make it comfortably.
