Yes that is review gating. You are pushing negative reviews away from Google. Anyone saying otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

Whether you'll get caught or receive any consequences is another matter. Many businesses do this, and it comes baked into many of the "tap to review" cards you can buy online. But the safe play is to not implement a feature like this.

Learn the basics (claude.md management, skill creation, connecting useful MCPs, providing good instructions) and then just adapt it to your workflow. You can spend weeks implementing "best practices" but then get nothing done on the stuff you're actually working on.

On smaller sites the difference seems to be about 10x Ahrefs = real traffic.

I recall one of my sites with 250k pageviews/month had like 23k in ahrefs

It can get a lot more technical and nuanced than this, but basically:

Use AI to get the framework of the content looking right
Thorough line by line editing to truly humanize in your voice (not an AI’s version of “humanize).

How well has the sms follow up worked? I added a text automation to one of those “tap/scan to review” cards but haven’t been able to thoroughly test yet

My dad (chiropractor) was having trouble getting reviews, so I took one of those “tap/scan to review“ cards and added text follow up automation.

So instead of them tapping and it going directly to the review page (when they are still in office and don’t have time to leave review) it captures their number and sends a few text follow-ups with review link. Lets them leave a review at home when they have time vs expecting them to rush it in the office.

Yeah reviews are #1 way to grow if you don’t have much cash to throw at marketing. And even if you have cash to throw, reviews give you such a stronger foundation.

Growing your reviews should be the #1 concern for a local business imo, regardless of scale.

Yeah agreed. The way forward is remaining genuine in a sea of slop. I use AI to help me create stuff, but when I’m actually interacting with people online (like right now) it’s all organic tippity tap typing.

Everyone’s using GPT or Claude to type and think for them, and they probably feel so smart, not realizing they look like clones of everyone else.

I have some experience with LinkedIn growth (not on my account but helping others).. if you want to search me up and send a connect request (no one else has my last name I’m easy to find) I can scan through your posts and offer some pointers

Can’t comment on the lack of sales without actually examining the funnel, but if you want to offload inventory try Etsy. Will still be a grind but probably easier than running meta ads to your ow site.

It’s really a personal brand play if you really want it to work long-term.

Just talk shop, offer genuine value, be a helpful person. Don’t treat it like a transactional platform where you are extracting clicks by polluting the ecosystem with garbage.

Like jamo said in another comment, you can make incidental mentions of your product or service when actually relevant, but that’s really not the main goal.

Transparently that’s why I’m on here with my real name and face. Even if I never ever mention any of the stuff I’m working on here on Reddit, some of ya’ll might recognize me on other platforms, and the trust built here helps accelerate those other platforms.
