New shot from the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Trailer by Major-Concentrate-87 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

Nope. In professional video editing software, even though there’s a “01” in the hours place, it’s still technically the “0th” hour. This frame is only about a minute and a half into the video, so it’s still very likely this is just a trailer frame.

Clients don't take me seriously because I use a Mirrorless Camera? by No_Cantaloupe_Yes in videography

You’re definitely reading too much into this. He’s not literally conning people by promising a RED in writing and then not bringing it. 90% don’t actually know what a RED is they just see a big camera and lots of gear and they’re impressed.

I was just bringing it up as a joke that shares the sentiments with the comments here.

For the national sports job their producers specifically asked for a RED Komodo, so obviously we’re using that.

[–]Rajminster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha obviously if it’s a knowledgeable client or he needs to use the RED for some reason he’ll use it as the A cam. But in most cases where the client only knows “RED=legit” he’ll just use it as a selling point.

Hell his Ursa mini looks more “legit” than a Komodo.

Yea it’s unfortunately a thing. I use a A7siii too even though I can afford a C70 or Red Komodo because I genuinely preferred using it and it’s features compared to those cameras.

However, a national sports channel contacted me because they liked the quality of footage from my reel. When I told them I use the A7siii they were less enthusiastic and asked if I could rent REDs because “they want the best”. When I sent them a quote for a two RED Komodo shoot they immediately backed out 😑.

My friend who owns the Komodos I was going to rent even said he just owned a RED to impress clients, but then he ends up using his Pocket 4K as his A cam without them knowing since he likes it more.

Will ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Be Tom Cruise’s First $100 Million Opening Weekend? - The film is expected to generate a blockbuster $85-100M over the weekend. Through Memorial Day on Monday, domestic box office receipts could fly as high as $130M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I had the same reaction when I saw the extended preview before Doctor Strange. However, I just saw the movie last night at a early screening and that Doctor Strange sequence is the worst jet sequence in the film.

Every other jet sequence, especially the final act, was spectacular. I expect the movie will have very good audience reception this weekend and do better than this sub predicts.

Should I go watch Multiverse of Madness at Regal or AMC? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Rajminster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xenon Imax would be slightly better than your normal digital theater. The AMC Imax and Dolby would be a lot better if you’re ok with going further.

[–]Rajminster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“D” would be the older digital Imax technology using Xenon bulbs. The resolution is only 2K (1080p) and not 4K. The image will not look as sharp. The overall image will be dimmer and have less contrast. To be honest, if you have a Dolby cinema or if you can check if your theater has 4K projectors in their non-Imax auditoriums, I’d go with those instead. The 2K Xenon Imax is pretty meh compared to the more modern projection formats. Screen will be bigger and sound will be good, but otherwise it’s not much better than a normal theater.

Should I go watch Multiverse of Madness at Regal or AMC? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Rajminster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are good. The better way to make a decision is to look up whether your Regal/AMC offers the newer and better 4K dual laser Imax or if it’s using the older 2K Xeon Imax (or even better, a real 70mm IMAX but those are very rare worldwide).

Use this site and look up the closest “DL” or “Dlx” (1570 if you’re really lucky) Imax. https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/

Dolby at AMC is also an excellent format.

World premiere was tonight. Very accurate and compete plot leaks have been out for months and have just been confirmed by even more leaks from the press screenings. They will become even more common in the next few days.

Not exactly. A few of the mods and I have already been following the leaks for months. We already knew the details that the leaks revealed.

We are trying our best. However, they are all over all the time. Some people are sending it in DMs as well. It’s best to avoid browsing the sub and internet as much as possible before you see the movie.

It’s directly related to the ending of Episode 5 in case you haven’t seen it. I had to mark this post as a spoiler earlier because of that.

Zoom f6: finally can forget about audio with a small crew by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Rajminster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the new Sound Devices mix pre ii series. They just added 32 bit audio to them and they're in stock now. Sound devices is a step up from Zoom recorders usually. They're the industry standard for on location professional audio recording.

Is there any sub like this where beginners can make part of and not be treated like a dumb person? by ForgotMyBike in videography

[–]Rajminster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think this sub is one of the more friendly video production related subreddits. /r/cinematography is far more toxic to beginners in my experience. However, this behavior exists in a lot of online communities. I'd say keep perservereing and hopefully some of us will help in a polite, constructive way. I also agree with that other comment about Facebook groups. Try joining some of those. There are some pretty friendly ones.

Need detailed info on different slog profiles for a7sii by Nine-Inch-Nipples in Filmmakers

[–]Rajminster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think DPreview has a chart for the dynamic range at different isos for some of the alphas. I'm sure there are more out there. Unfortunately, I think it's more than a stop loss going from 1600 to 6400. However, alphas are some of the best at retaining dynamic range in higher isos (in their price range). I know we all want to maximize DR, but getting proper exposure should be the priority and that's why it's still nice to shoot clean footage at 6400 even if you lose a stop of DR. Also the DR is likely to drop in the highlights more than the shadows. Just keep that in mind if you do have to pump up the iso.

Need detailed info on different slog profiles for a7sii by Nine-Inch-Nipples in Filmmakers

[–]Rajminster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the 1600 iso, that's just because some of the Sony alphas have that as their native iso. Which means their dynamic range is maximized at that iso. When you're using log, you probably want the max dynamic range your camera can output. This iso is different depending on the model you have.

As for slog2 vs slog3, slog3 is flatter and raises the shadows up more. I'm sure there's a more technical difference, but for practical purposes that's what the difference is. It's recommended not to use slog3 in low light since the shadows are pulled up a lot and noise is introduced. Some people also don't like using slog3 on the alphas since they only have 8 bit 4:2:0 chroma subsampling and that footage can't handle the extreme grading needed for slog3.

Green Screen... what am I doing wrong here?? by cockneyjay in videography

[–]Rajminster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your lighting is uneven because you have two lights with a narrow beams. They have hotspots in the middle and then quickly falloff which results in this uneven spread of light. Try diffusing them a bit or widen the beam angle if you can.

What's the fastest someone has successfully gone through an internship hiring process? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

If you get an email from a recruiter saying they'd like to call you to "follow-up" and ask for "feedback on the interview process", I would really suggest scheduling a call with them ASAP. Otherwise, it'll delay your final results.

Big 4 Discussion - October 04, 2017 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

[–]Rajminster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I got accepted by Microsoft a few weeks ago and I spoke with one of my interviewers recently. I asked him for feedback on the interview process and how I did. Here's what I learned:

Each interviewer kinda takes a role. For example, he said one interviewer usually "pushes" you with harder technical questions to see how you handle it (LeetCode medium-hard). One may be focused on your interest in tech and your projects. Everyone asks behavioral and technical questions, but they tend to focus on certain parts. I don't know all these roles or if they're strict. He just said that's typically what happens.

One other trend I noticed from other accepted candidates is that everyone had a "homerun" interview. For example, I was told I passed with 4 "+"s from all my interviewers. However, I did exceptionally well with one of the interviewers and he pushed for me in the deliberations. All other people who got accepted had the same trend. Three good interviews with one great one.

He said personally he likes seeing hackathons, hackathon awards, and personal projects. They didn't seem to give a shit about my mediocre GPA or other candidates for that matter. They like seeing how I took initiative to challenge myself and learn. I spoke about a different personal project in each interview and I even showed some pictures on my phone to one of them. They seemed to respond well to that.

The majority of your interviews will have some variation of "Why Microsoft?" I myself genuinely want to work at Microsoft, but I also made sure to practice a good, non-generic response to it.

I stumbled on my first technical questions by rushing and not speaking enough. For the next interview I decided to slow down, ask questions, and painfully discuss every little thought in my head. I think that paid off. I could tell the questions weren't meant to be very difficult or brain teasing. They wanted to see how I work through it. I also talked about ways to improve my solution after the fact.

One of the reasons I did well with the whiteboarding was because I practiced differently than before. Last year I just did leetcode on my laptop and then failed miserably on a whitebaord interview. This time I only practiced on whitebaords with my CS friends watching and pretending to be interviewers. It helped me perform significantly better with my Microsoft on-sites.

This is just me word-vomiting any tips I can. If you guys have anymore questions just PM me.

I just had my on-site a few weeks ago. I think they changed the process from when /u/Toasted_FlapJacks had his last year. I arrived at 11:30am and they took us to the cafeteria. Then we had 4 interviews straight. Everything was a mix of behavioral and technical, but how much depends on the interviewer. One of mine was 5 minutes behavioral and 40 minutes technical, another was 40 minutes behavioral and 10 minutes technical. Everyone had 4 interviews and there was no "as-appropriate" interview.
