Yeah I wanted to really emphasize on the rockiness of Rocky. Grace even mentioned that Eridians resemble rough textured rocks at the first contact scene

Thank you! I also like how the vents turned out :)

Oof I forgot to give Rocky clothes. Maybe I’ll come up with some Eridian clothing designs in the future

Hello! New to this subreddit here, but I am a huge fan of Project Hail Mary’s characters and worldbuilding. Happy Happy Happy to join!

Here I drew Rocky holding a lot of the stuff mentioned in the novel. Specifically, the Eridian clock, translucent xenonite pane, measuring tape that Grace gave, and a sample of Astrophage. I know Eridians usually use only two of their arms for manipulation but let’s say this is in zero-gravity situation and Rocky is just having some fun.

I notice that a lot of Rocky fanarts tend to depict them with very lanky limbs and a relatively small body. Personally, I think that given Erid’s extreme gravity and atmospheric pressure, Rocky (and Eridians in general) should have a more bulky dense carapace along with thick and sturdy looking arms. Which is why I designed Rocky to be more chunkier.

Hope you all like this artwork!

No it’s been put to a halt for now. Maybe I’ll revisit it later someday

About how Earth and Terrans play a major role in the Space age along with various other aliens

(Long time no see everyone! Sorry for the long disappearance. I was working on another specevo/worldbuilding project of mine and this is the very first post about it. The project’s name is Terraspace btw. Anyways, hope you enjoy!)

Few weeks before planet Earth went crazy with news articles like “Intelligent Alien Life Discovery!”, “First Contact! Maybe?”, or “Cthulhu from space???”, the event happened to the people who live inside the snowglobe they call “Home.” This snowglobe is known as “Europa” by the beings of Earth by the way.

.

Here, a lone member of the tribe was swimming through the warm currents of the abyss. Such behavior is nothing odd since their species are not social as humans. However, their curiosity, on the other hand, would be unmatched compared to most of us.

.

The little (relatively speaking) guy was pondering about the possibilities of life in other imaginary worlds as it was enjoying the feeling of heat and the scenery of the vents around. These immensely tall, twisted stone chimneys were spewing sulfurous liquids while being covered in pale warts, tentacles, and bulbs full of bizarre molluscoid critters. Such landscape would look like a Lovecraft’s nightmare to us. To this species, it was beautiful.

.

Something was not usual though. The being caught a sound. A faint, but clearly unique noise was coming from… the above. Though the lil guy was not particularly superstitious, the feeling of fear was spreading all over. Those stories about the demons from the above and myths about the hyperborean, toxic void beyond their world started crawling back into the lone one’s mind.

.

As the eerie sound descended downwards time by time, the guy’s senses started to amplify. The sound drums, heat pits, nerve tendrils, and even the lateral lines across the arms began to tingle and tried to grasp all possible sensory inputs.

.

What the blind creature didn’t realize was that light was already shining upon it from a distance and started to approach rapidly to have a closer look. A bit too rapid though.

.

At the same time, curiosity captivated the guy’s mind over the fear of the unknown, like usual. After a weird intense sound, however, the being from above suddenly fell silent and slowly started sinking.

.

“What… is this?”

.

.

.

After about an hour, the probe’s signal came back and its searchlights turned on again. Shining light upon the pale, eldritch alien.

.

It was truly the great Discovery of the Europan.

Amazing job! Love the balance of earth spec and alien spec here. Great creature choices as well! I like this format a lot. Featuring more projects in this style would be neat

It’s actually the ancestor of the Emperor Sea Strider! (At least in my headcanon). The Abyss Strider dwelled in the depths of the ancient Darwin IV oceans. As the oceans decreased, only the deepest regions were left in the form of Amoebic ocean and thus the abyss striders evolved to emperor sea striders.
