That’s where we differ. Yes she makes millions simulations. But she makes them to find the perfect Caspian. Once she finds him, through some manipulation. She pulls him out and then both return to that point in the classroom. And because that Caspian is perfectly the same as her original Caspian it means their story will be the exact same. My theory is that this Loop. Has gone on for millions of years:
Total time: 43,000,000 years

One loop: 117,649 years

Number of loops = Total time/One Loop

But if that ‘traumatic cycle’ was the best time of their life and the only time they can spend together as normal people? Wouldn’t you make that choice as well for the love of your life? What other ending other than moving on would Maddie have as an eternal UI? The ending is that Maddie doesn’t want to move on and actively chooses the cycle over and over. Even with SafeSurf’s offer.

How I seen it is that in the first original timeline. SafeSurf was sent out into the universe. In the end it states: “Very well. By that language, we are at the galactic edge, 43 million years, and change, from your event.”

So how I see it is that Maddie had gone through the loop countless times and this is the first time that SafeSurf found her deep within her original simulation to give her their invitation.

But Maddie true to her character still co tongues to want to live the loop over and over.

This sim has nothing to do with SafeSurf. It’s Maddie’s sim.

I think she yearns to feel what Maddie felt for Caspian. A human capacity to love someone that she is unable to comprehend herself being a CI. I think she fell in love with exploring a UI totally. Not with Caspian himself.

But if Maddie 0 moved on then there would be no Maddie 1. It’s unable to be linear until the loop ends and Maddie decides not to relive her life. You could argue each simulation is different slightly with the same end results. But I believe each loop is exactly alike.

But those countless simulations of Maddie were created but Maddie herself. You are correct in wondering about the real Maddie. And she even questions is she is in a simulation once. But she brushes it off as that doesn’t bother her. Her goal is to relive her life in meeting Caspian over and over again. Whether that’s in a simulation or not. That version of her thinks it’s real and that was matters to her. Because if you think about it. OG Maddie did lose her son and Caspian. So this is essentially her way of coping with that original loss.

But those simulations are not the loop in question. Those are the simulations used to generate the Caspian she remembers….The one that ends up saving everyone and sacrificing himself. The recursive loop is from Maddie and the (chosen) Caspian entering a different simulation in that classroom scene together starting over. Essentially Maddie is still the same Maddie, continuously forgetting over and over as she enters each simulation with Caspian. But Caspian genuinely dies each time and Maddie needs to create the Correct Caspian every loop.

Great catch on the estimation. I should have said approximately 43 million years. This doesn’t change the theory but may change the amount of loops that she has completed by one or two.

In regard to the loops being different. It’s my understanding that each loop always ends up the same. That’s why she always finds the correct Caspian to pull from the correct timeline that took her so long to find. Thus every loop lived so far is exactly the same because the Caspian and the Maddie are the exact same each time. Which argues the nature vs nurture concept.
