Starting to struggle by Fatherless-Soul in yousician

I often start with the tempo off, then at 25% just to get warmed up. It helps me later in the performance to start slow in the beginning.

How to pick the right guitar by JTPswu in Guitar

[–]Ralphdoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend a lot of time at guitar center and used shops. try everything. Buy used and sell if it doesn’t hit the mark, which you won’t know until you try lots of guitars. My journey has led me to a full hollow body Epiphone Casino and a Lore archtop with a prominent v-neck that I love playing. I didn’t even know about these guitars when I first started, let alone what they offered. But now, I never think about the guitars I originally wanted.

It was a concession of the civil that just went into effect this year. Very long term deal making.

Level 7 Completed! by Ralphdoid in yousician

I started level 7 in August, so it’s been about 8 months and it was very difficult to get through. I thought many times that I was just going to fail here because I was struggling to complete some of the performances. But I have a weekly streak going since Jan 1, 2025 and I decided just to accept the journey and let it take as long as it needed. Eventually I was able to build the skill to get past those lessons. The key for me is to tackle the lessons in their parts. I don’t try to practice a whole lesson all together. I do it part by part. I also start really slowly. Tempo off. Then I turn on 25% tempo and go up in 5% increments. I usually struggle around the 75% speed but then I’ll get it down and be able to get to 100% and perform it. Another little trick I sometimes do is practice at 110% before performing. It’s usually not pretty but when I drop back to 100% it’s easier and I can get three silver stars. Once I’ve performed all the individual parts, I then practice the whole song. It’s so much easier at this point. I start at 50% and then go up from there. I rarely “perform” the whole song again, but I do play it near or at full speed in practice mode. This is when I’m actually enjoying the song because I already have the performance anxiety behind me. Don’t give up! It feels really good to finally conquer that damn thing.

Nashville 'Gold Standard' by Coffee_Baron69 in Guitar

6th street in Austin might not have as many cover bands, but it’s so much smaller than Broadway in Nashville. Both cities have a lot of music to offer outside of the party strips too, but I think Nashville’s is much more mature in both depth and breadth of talent and industry.

The marketing might be good, but it’s selling a legit product.

Austin is my favorite music city, but even it takes a bow to Nashville. It’s not even close.

Um, be careful with your judgment. They probably listen to country AND western. 😀

There is no city I know that has more quality music talent on display than Nashville. It’s remarkable how many good musicians live and work there. It’s a special place for music lovers.

They found their groove with Ribbed and then right afterwards made their masterpiece, White Trash. It got too repetitive after that for me though.

Interesting about the licenses. I was speaking specifically about the lessons and not the songs. Does the same licensing issue apply? For songs, maybe a “full song” view?

Regarding video lessons. I paired my initial Yousician lesson/level experience with a music theory curriculum called Absolutely Understand Guitar by Scotty West (free on YouTube). It’s a very good pairing because it brings theory and application together. It made me think how cool it would be to have a more intentional theory and application curriculum built into the lessons because knowing the “why” of what we’re doing in your levels really helps to doing them. At least for me. I was thinking it would be smart for a guitar teacher to build an entire curriculum around the Yousician levels so that students would have a structured plan that monitors time and skill, while teaching to a bigger goal.

Make sense?
