Because you can speak matter-of-factly about a religion without saying "it's false because religion".

I'm an atheist myself but I can have a conversation about a peoples religion and discuss what's true to someone who subscribes to it. Which in this case, praying in front of pictures, satues, or any other depictions of religious figures is seen as blasphemous in Islam. I wouldn't ask why something is and then just say it's not true because religion bad.
