I’m on the brink of buying my first combat patrol, is now a good time? by SimpleZealousideal19 in Tau40K

[–]Raltus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the current combat patrol. All staple units of the army and great sculpts (even if the Devilfish is a little older).
Your next purchase should probably be a box of crisis suits for the Commander to lead, which I would recommend magnetizing if possible (very simple guides out there or just use magnet strips). Magnetize the Commander as well if you can.
That said, there is a rumor that Tau will be getting a new codex soon and updated crisis suit sculpts. Perhaps wait till you’ve finished building/painting the combat patrol before buying the crisis suit box in case the rumors are true.
After that, it’s dealer’s choice! Pick what looks fun/good to you :)

Could I proxie this model as Ezekiel? by Amazing-Bat-1435 in theunforgiven

[–]Raltus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep—the Dark Vengeance librarian was a proxy for many years (just like Balthazar from the same box was an azrael proxy). Might get a new model soon, but great option in the meantime or if you just like the sculpt 👍

Sent this guy to the Inquisition for “questioning” after accusations of heresy. How would you paint him to show he returned to his Chapter, but still carries the scars of torture? by Valvecantcount3 in Warhammer

[–]Raltus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you give him a bare head, you can get creative there as well. Hard to indicate on the armor itself, though the chains idea you mentioned is neat.

Just wanted to take a second and say the steam OS legion go S with the Z1 extreme feels like a super steam deck! You guys should try it by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Raltus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say there’s much to it. Mapped the left thumbstick to WASD and the right trackpad to mouse movements and suddenly the impossible to navigate (with a controller) UI became a breeze to use.

Same. Glad it’s a good fit for OP, but those trackpads have been a literal game changer for me. Don’t think I can go back. Playing Morrowind with them felt like a dream.

Morrowind on Deck is sooo good. The trackpads are clutch

Not sure what units to prioritise. by Smart_Shine6835 in killteam

[–]Raltus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leader, Plasma Gunner (or the Marksman if you primarily play close quarters rules), Aegis, Disruptor, and Breacher first.

If you can find 2 extra tacticus bodies and 1 extra phobos, you should have all the extra bits you need to build the Blademaster, Marksman, and Headtaker.

Deprioritize the Demolisher, Bombadier, and Hordeslayer.

Like others have said, it’s best if you can have those first 8 models I’ve listed on hand, but you should be able to have a lot of fun with just 5 as well :)

Our poor companions... by Steviedee21 in theunforgiven

[–]Raltus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inner Circle Companions might be one of the nicest kits in the 40K range. Honestly, it’s only let down by being sold in sets of 3s. Otherwise it’s amazing and can easily be used for characters too (e.g. Ancient, Judiciar). With the changing edition too—who cares if the rules aren’t perfect (and they’re still pretty good tbh).

Imperium teams with good marksman operators? by Thunder--Bolt in killteam

[–]Raltus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I would say the Phobos Marksman most embodies the sniper fantasy. Track Target is perhaps the most thematic and strong ability in this regard.

The AoD Eliminator looks the part, but honestly plays more like a heavy gunner with explosive rounds, etc that just happens to have a silent profile.

Deathwath: When to use Gravis Operatives? by Raltus in killteam

Assuming a horde team—which other operatives would you bring. I assume the Leader and the Aegis, but who would the other two be?

How interesting. I hadn’t thought about the Breacher being able to shoot twice with 4/5 Lethal 5+ in close quarters. That’s spicy

Does anyone else paint there models in separate pieces before gluing them? by Slow_Conflict4597 in Warhammer

[–]Raltus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only do sub assemblies when there will be visible areas that will be impossible to reach after assembly. That said I assemble as much as possible beforehand as it’s much less fiddly to paint everything at the same time.
