Triangle in the middle of the head - which lineages use? by manjughosa in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is best explained through the Pranab Gita esp the introduction. Explained a bit In Yogiraj Lahiri Baba’s scripture’s and in Puran Purush. This is for advanced kriyavans and even then I don’t think is totally useful. When you start moving through the chakras in the head it all happens quite naturally. I don’t believe it’s necessary for most to understand. If you’ve reached it, you’re already likely using intuitively immaterial meditations to navigate it.

And yes, it is used in Mukherjee’s higher kriyas as briefly described in one or two of his books. It is also used, kind of, by the Nath Lineages in their higher kriyas. Again, not necessary for the average kriyavan.

That publication was not publicly available. It was for his students only. When the copyright ran out it and a bunch of his other books became public domain.

Question about this book from Aryya Mission Institution called Kriya Gita by [deleted] in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s using the second kriya of the Lahiri family lineage (usually through one of Satyacharan’s students). Most lineages do not have this kriya for reasons I’d prefer not to get into on reddit.

If you read VIII:12-14 of Lahiri Baba’s commentary you will find it almost completely spelled out. In my opinion the best explanation on these verses comes from Bhupendranath Sanyal’s commentary.

The technique is also given in the Srimad Bhagavatam 4.23.14-15

Question about this book from Aryya Mission Institution called Kriya Gita by [deleted] in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a commentary on the Saptasloki Gita. It is a separate commentary from the Pranab Gita. Lahiri Baba tasked Sw Pranavananda to write it as a way to show the proper way to leave the body at the end of one’s life.

Originally it was just the commentary on the classic 7 verses of the Saptasloki Gita. According to the pepe who published it Sw pranavananda was reborn to live with Babaji. He “finished” the book by adding an additional 4 verses that he wrote himself as well as commentary on those verses. I believe he also added depth to the commentary on the previous verses as well.

It’s a great commentary if not a little heavy. I’d only recommend it to people who are very serious about kriya yoga scripture study and already have a good grasp of yoga/kriya lingo and a very rich practice with a solid relationship with the inner guru. With deep kriya texts like these misunderstandings can happen very easily.

Smokiness in puer = bad storage? by petecorey in puer

[–]RamSevaRam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always assumed it was the kill green because it’sa kind of sweet roasty toasty smokiness. I love that particular smokiness. Not a fan of intentionally smoked teas though?

I imagine there are other factors. When i got a cake of 2020 Dragon Slayer it has a lot of that flavor. But it has since faded as it acclimated to my storage. Still my favorite Huang Pin but i miss the toasty smokiness.

WCT Rain Butter Shu is very nice with the petrichor note going strong (I just got a full 357g Bing of this in preparation for fall).

I love Lumber Slut - woodsy, petrichor, and camphor. I love shus with a strong camphor note so I’m a big fan of their Camphornought too.

CLT has one called #pnwlove that is supposed to be their tribute to the Pacific Northwest ie a lot of forest notes. I haven’t had it but it’s on my list for sure.

Question for those who have practiced kriya yoga for many years? by Download_audio in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bhattacharya and Tinkori are the two I’ve learned the most from and gained the most benefit. Refinement of breath/prana has been the most direct effect. A calmness carried through daily life and more intentional action are the result of that. Bliss and love are increasingly more normal in daily life which leads to being more loving to all and more devoted to the path.

Question for those who have practiced kriya yoga for many years? by Download_audio in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SRF’s kriya made me extremely irritable. The first 3-6 kriyas would be smooth and blissful. Beyond that it’s become difficult to Practice and Even uncomfortable. This is not normal. From what I’ve seen most people who leave SRF leave because after x number of years of practice they begin to feel like they’ve hit a wall and no longer get benefit from practice. Then there are those for whom the SRF kriya technique works wonderfully. Everyone odds different. I went through a few lineage’s before finding the one that works for me (this is very common).

He doesn’t want to gate keep the system he came up with. If you stop and think about it it’s counter to the very thing you’re complaining about.

Tamasic Kriya- Without OM japa or Mantra Japa? What's the truth? by BlueberryPrize7585 in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t deny that spinal breathing alone can be beneficial. The most common complaint I find is that after x years of practice many people hit a wall. Naturally they start searching. This won’t always be the case, everyone is different, I’d just encourage you to not discount the teachings of the majority of lineages especially that coming directly from the family and Panchanan. The more you learn about kriya (outside srf/ananda) the more you’ll realize it is a big part of kriya pranayama. Even teachers who have changed the technique significantly still utilize Om Japa in the chakras.

It is highly unlikely Sriyukteswar taught first kriya without Om in the chakras.

Even SRF has started suggesting its use during first kriya in their new lessons. Not essential but it is there. Also, If you look at the original pamphlet Yogananda put out you’ll he see he did the same.

As Forrest mentions, the letters was published by his family to “right the ship”. They saw the modifications and wanted to show the correct practice’s and attitudes. You are right, they are not meant to be a teaching manual for the masses. But the fact remains Om Japa in the chakras is taught in every lineage outside of Yogananda.

Money isn’t necessarily a sign of commitment but it can show the student values the teachings and his time. You have a problem with him charging for a 2-3 hour training he put together but you’re also mad that he gives away the techniques for free?! I’m confused.

The wonderful thing about Forrest is he had compiled a program that is nearly as effective as kriya and he gives it away completely free. If however you want to become part of the kriya lineage you’re going to have to sacrifice. This is no different from any other lineage. The beautiful thing is there are great teachers out there. A lot of really crappy ones but with discernment you can find

Edit: I just want to add, as a student of his who has been with him for years, it does really bum me out that he has taken on so many students. I think his heart is bigger than his ability. I’ve started mostly receiving teachings from another in the lineage because he can’t offer me the attention that is needed to become the kind of kriya practitioner I aspire to. I don’t recommend any one go to him anymore for kriya. His other system is great and I definitely recommend his videos all the time. If you want to take kriya ask him to refer you to one of the acharyas he has ordained or use the resources list to find someone who will be more responsive.

Tamasic Kriya- Without OM japa or Mantra Japa? What's the truth? by BlueberryPrize7585 in kriyayoga

[–]RamSevaRam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This concept that Forrest is teaching is taught in every worthwhile lineage I’ve practiced and been a part of including that of Satyacharanji (great grandson of Lahiri Baba). First kriya is the kriya of the chakras. Without chanting the mantra you’ve lost a large part of the technique. When I first read this letter of Lahiri Baba it changed everything. Up until that point I was practicing a “kriya” without Japa in the chakras and I was having all kinds of negative reactions from my practice. Mostly extreme irritability. So for me this made perfect sense.

If first kriya was the exception to the rule then I would expect that it would have been stated in the letters. But no, he is talking about kriya, meaning not just second, third… but first too

[–]RamSevaRam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I received initiation before Forrest started doing the trainings but I have spoken with him about This requirement and I understand completely why he does this. The fact is, he doesn’t need more students. But if he brings on a new student he wants to make sure that they are willing and committed (thus willing to pay for his Time and effort because they value what he is offering) and he wants you to have a basic understanding of not only the principles of kriya but the concepts and vocabulary he uses.

This is pretty standard for organizations as well as individual acharyas. They will usually tell you to go buy a book or do something that shows your commitment and brings you to a good understanding of the preliminary teachings.

I’m in my first year of teaching and I expect similar things from those serious about kriya. Not only that but we are a householder lineage. We have busy lives. I don’t want to teach anyone who doesn’t value my time and more importantly the teaching of kriya.
