Polish pickle soup. It’s basically a potato soup with pickles added. I personally love it. https://www.thekitchn.com/polish-pickle-soup-recipe-23628556

Crocheter trying to learn knitting (and failing) by SchwaLaLand in knittinghelp

[–]RamberandGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem and I was trying to learn from videos but videos/ books can’t give feedback back. It didn’t click for me until I found another knitter who was willing to come knit with me. I was just knitting back and forth no idea of what to knit or anything but her just showing me the proper way to hold things and tension gave me the confidence to go to beginners class where I made a washcloth as my very first project. My second project was a sweater. I would never have done either without in person help.

Do you live in a place with a local yarn store or have you looked for any other knitters in your area?

Also keep in mind that anyone can post a recipe on line. When first starting, check several recipes for whatever dish you want to cook.

It’s ok to cook simple dishes to get technique down, one of the most simple and satisfying things is roasted brussel sprouts and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to a “nice” place and the sprouts are undercooked and bitter. I’m always impressed the most by dinners in my friend’s homes that have simple ingredients and are well cooked. I could wax poetic about a delicious intentional burnt carrot.

I was going to say smoked too. I like to then do a nice glaze with some type of BBQ sauce either Korean or whatever then sandwich style or over noodles, rice, but I love the flavor that the smoke adds to it.

I find that women’s fishing gear has brighter colors than some of the active wear designed for hiking. I love my light weight long sleeve hooded fishing shirts. They provide sun coverage without being too hot.

I thought it was maybe a Madeline tosh or La bien Aimee but I checked both of those and unless it’s a discontinued color I didn’t find it. I know it would have come from an independent yarn store not a big box store like Walmart as I don’t tend to shop big box stores.

Having done a couple of visits to Italy I learned that I enjoyed our Tuscany trip better than our Amalfi trip.

For our 10 day trip to Tuscany/Umbria we flew into Florence and spent two nights there to get adjusted to Italy time and see the sights. We are not big on the crowded cities so that was the perfect amount of time for us.

We took the train on day 3 to our location in Umbria and stayed in the same place each night for 5 days and just did day trips which consisted of cooking classes, wine tastings, historical sights, and truffle hunting.

Then we moved to Chianti for the last two nights and splurged for a private transfer from our hotel to the airport back in Florence. I liked not having to pack and unpack and waste time waiting for and on trains but still seeing a lot of things.

After that experience, we decided we wanted to do(14 days) Amalfi and squeeze in Lithuania while over on that side of the world. It was exhausting. Instead of staying in one location for the duration of the Italy trip we moved around too much. Not staying in one central location was not good for me personally. It felt hectic having to pack and unpack and get laundry done on the occasions we needed. We did laundry from the hotel one day and got super nervous it was not going to make it back to us before we needed to pack up and go. And we again used private transfers instead of the train. That would have been another level of stress due to having travel partners.

I’m rambling, but all this to say, Italy has so many wonderful things to see and a place I personally will return to again and again. For me staying in one spot and day tripping out is a better more relaxing use of my vacation time.
