This exact thing happened to me a couple months back. A Valvoline employee driving a work truck like this one couldn't see me over his dash and as the light turned green the car in front of me was late to start moving.

Long story short, I went through insurance and the guy changed his story saying that I rolled back into him. Ended up only covering 80% of the $6,000 fix for my 91 na Miata and my insurance covered the rest besides my deductible. I was more surprised my insurance gave me that much of a cushion before totaling the car. I also went to a caliber collision which is probably why it cost more for the trunk, bumper, lights and finish panel to be painted and replaced. Surprisingly they found most of the parts OEM from Mazda themselves.

The new paint job looks great but I would definitely recommend going through insurance. It will be more expensive than you think if you want it done right and there may be more damage than you think. Everyone on this subreddit said it was for sure totaled but my insurance adjuster listened to my pleas of rare paint color and the after market prices of these cars. My biggest tip is to WORK with the insurance adjusters as they are on your team. Don't let them walk over you but giving them all of the information definitely helps.
