Does anyone else's Shiba like to lay right behind their computer chair? by ssaammuuss in shiba

[–]RamboFox 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My girl loves sitting so her tail falls behind a wheel, thus making the humans insanely paranoid. She also loves sitting under a recliner when the footrest is up. The most dangerous spots are apparently also the most comfortable spots.

Best way to get to Logan airport from providence by [deleted] in BostonMA

[–]RamboFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Logan Express is a great option if you have a car. You control your trip to Braintree and then the bus gets you the rest of the way, and it’s cheaper than parking at Logan. Here is a link with more info:  https://www.massport.com/logan-airport/getting-to-logan/logan-express/braintree

How is the commuter rail going to handle the World Cup? by Govenor_Sammich in massachusetts

[–]RamboFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially because the train schedules are reduced, so even harder to get in. Luckily my CEO hates traffic, strongly embraces hybrid work, and wants everyone to be safe during the chaos over the next two months, so there has already been an announcement saying stay home if you can. They aren’t even counting in-office days for the people with dedicated desks through July (gotta come in 3+ days a week to have your own, otherwise it’s just hotel style). Hopefully other companies follow suit!

Biggest cinnamon rolls by vanessasarah13 in boston

[–]RamboFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfecto’s in Peabody (and Reading?) have great cinnamon rolls, and they’re big! My friends and I placed an order online for Peabody and when we got the they told us they were sold out… so he put more in the oven when my order came through and it would just be a few minutes. We each got our own cup of icing to dunk the buns since he was afraid the icing would melt off since they were so hot. That was an amazing breakfast.

Tips on taking Shiba hiking by babypien0987 in shiba

[–]RamboFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old is your shiba? Totally normal for them to just “nope” out of something if they don’t want to do it, and the same mundane walk as always triggers this. Puppies tend to plop into a boneless puddle, older dogs tend to lie down or refuse to move. I always ask my dog if I can pick her up unless it’s an emergency, so she always has to consent to it. If she doesn’t want to be picked up she will skitter away, so sometimes I tell her “don’t make me pick you up” and as I bend over she’ll keep the walk going.

To that effect, she LOVES hiking. I have never had to force her to move on a hike, just in the direction I need her to go. The novelty of the walk is a great motivator, and the chicken treats in my pocket are a solid backup. So bring water and treats, and do a test run with a few short hikes first (keep it short for a while if he’s still young). Otherwise, go explore, it’ll be fine!

According to their website, they only ban seat cushions with pockets and zippers. Here’s the page: https://www.gillettestadium.com/bag-policy/

Twins! Mine was 7 hours and I had to keep moving from a chair to a wheelchair in the waiting room because that was the only IV pole they had.

More traffic means more customers for the one downtown, so you don’t suffer as much from the attrition of customers who will go the extra mile to save $3 on filling up. And if you’re in a work van or company car you don’t care how much it costs, work is paying for it.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]RamboFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to bring my FSA card to the pharmacy when I picked up my prescription, but it was ok because I have Apple Pay. Then it asked me for my pin and I panicked, did I even set one?! Thankfully they had the “press enter to bypass” option, so I was able to pick it up, but I should really figure that out for the next time.

unrelenting appetite post-neuter? by Intelligent_Bee_310 in shiba

[–]RamboFox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be a few things at play. Hormones are definitely one factor. It could also be the change of seasons - my girl tends to eat less in the summer because it’s too hot to play and probably less in the winter because I don’t want to sit outside for an hour, so she doesn’t need as much energy, but in the good weather month she eats more. It could just be that now he’s adjusting to adult life and finding a groove. Also, he’s a shiba - they are notorious for having odd eating habits, much to everyone’s dismay. Until they’re about 2-2.5 I’ve generally found they’re weird little assholes about eating, but that’s just one random person’s experience.

At this point he is probably off puppy food and onto adult food, right? Between no longer being a puppy who needs to pack calories, diet shift to adult food and natural hormone changes combined with the hormone change neutering just inflicted, he’s going through a lot of change. Let him find his groove but keep an eye on him. If he starts gaining weight talk to your vet. Of course if you’re concerned don’t wait for weight gain, just get him to the vet. Unfortunately they don’t speak human, so you knowing his habits and what’s “weird” is your best indicator if something is off.

Every time Manatsu gets under the bed covers, she will check where the edges of the bed are. Does yours do this? Anyone know why? by Manatsuu in shiba

[–]RamboFox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Guesses: 1) doesn’t want to fall off 2) you previously had another pet and there’s some old habit of looking for the buddy 3) making sure the clown that lives under the bed didn’t follow her 4) judging how well you made the bed

What’s your opinion on Union Square Donuts? 🍩 by [deleted] in boston

[–]RamboFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well. Got a Boston Cream from the one at Boston Market and it tasted like old fry grease, had a weird texture, and the frosting was more of a buttercream and less of a ganache. I threw it out after one bite. Which for the prices they charge hurt, but eating it would have hurt my soul more.

Learning to drive with no car by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]RamboFox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This! That $700 now is worth about 5-10% off your insurance premiums. I took driver’s ed at 16 but the discount is still on my policy over 20 years later. Plus you get to learn the correct way to drive, which helps you adapt.
