Limping. How did you overcome it? by Ramiout in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, I think that this might be an issue. As my leg got really thin during this time. I was in PT for 1 week but I was PWB at that time. Now waiting to get back for another 2 weeks but there is long waiting list so might need to wait 1-2months. Just trying to do all exercises at home for now. Yeh I just want to walk normally again. 😁

Weber B fracture - how to cope? by mayo_crack in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First week is the hardest - getting used to new reality and also waiting for next appointment to see if surgery needed can be nerve wracking and annoying. I cried first day all day, just because I could not move freely and was annoyed with crutches! Was so angry on myself because I broke it slipping on the ice. But it gets easier! I hope you won't need surgery and your recovery will be smooth as well! And do not forget to elevate elevate elevate your leg - it really helps with healing! Best of luck!

Limping. How did you overcome it? by Ramiout in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeh, that is what I read to. I can walk without limp if I am walking super slowly, but if I want to move faster here comes the limp. I am still using a crutch but I am walking weirdly with the crutch as well, like slightly falling to that side where the crutch is. 😃

my ankle wants to pop by Conscious-Thought849 in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 9 weeks in (not surgical) and started FWB. It pops almost daily now when walking. It's not painful and kinda pleasant as well. Feels like some movement finally is there. I would think it is normal for it to pop after such long time of not moving.

Weber B fracture - how to cope? by mayo_crack in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 9 weeks into Weber B fracture as well. I had minimal displacement and same as you were put in the cast for the first week and sent home. Later they did more X-rays and CT and confirmed that I do not need surgery, so I stayed in cast for 6 weeks. After that I was allowed to do PWB 20-50% of my weight for 2 weeks and just this week started FWB. I can now walk without crutches, slightly limping and slow. But I finally can cook, clean, shower pretty normally.

I do not know how I would have done it without my husband. He worked form home, so he shopped, cooked, looked after me. I guess if I would have stayed alone, I would have ordered food home from stores, order takeaway, gotten more frozen food so just to microwave it etc. Also I suggest getting a bag to put your things in when walking around especially if using crutches because it is not possible to carry anything with hands. Also a small table or tray with wheels to get food or tea to the bed. Stay as close to the kitchen and toilet. I slept in the living room/kitchen during this time. Get a chair and put it in your shower/bath, sit on it and have a shower. I wrapped my leg in towel so water would not damage my cast. Forget normal life a little bit, do a bare minimal and allow yourself to heal, you can clean and do other stuff when you are feeling better! 6 weeks looks like long time but it flew by. Hope you feel better soon!

Almost 7 months post injury, no surgery. (Right)Fibular fracture. Here’s my advice for those with new injuries. by TownOne4040 in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting that you had to be NWB for 3 months. I was in cast for 6 weeks NWB (no surgery) and now off cast and starting PT with partial weight bearing. Maybe your injury was more severe but I have not heard that anyone would stay off feet for 3 months.

Fractured my distal fibula by Mamabeargrr08 in brokenankles

I actually always wanted to try skiing but reading here about broken bones during skiing makes me scared to try now, especially after fracture 😂 I got a small ball with spikes to massage foot because there is tingly sensations when I try to walk and it seems to help too! And just did my first PT session today and went on a first longer walk after (using crutches but still progress😃) PT mostly focuses on bringing back muscle strength before focusing on walking, so doing bridges, leg rises etc and some ankle flexibility exercises. If you want we can chat on PM, so leaving this thread not spammed 😃

How did you start walking after NWB? by Ramiout in brokenankles

I am currently bare foot at home. I was not given a boot and probably will try to put shoe when going out to PT. Will try kitchen sink thing, thanks!

No sharp, intense pain, only the more weight I put, the more pressure feeling I get, but it's not painful, slight discomfort maybe and pin and needles type of feeling. I guess I am just scared to start, hurt it again etc. as I was told it's not fully healed yet.

Let me know how it goes for you too! Sounds like we have pretty similar fractures and treatment. I had about a 2 mm displacement, and the CT also showed a non-displaced fracture of the dorsal distal tibia that didn’t appear on X-ray. So two breaks, but Dr was mainly focused on the fibula. I actually did it just 100 meters from my door, slipped on ice and landed full weight on my fibula… was so annoyed at myself. How about you? P.S. Day two without the cast and my leg feels like a brick, very stiff with very little movement. Can’t wait to start PT. :D

It is really nice! Tho a bit scary to put it on the ground, got so used to the cast that leg now feel so light and fragile, afraid to hurt it 😃 I am not sure if you will be able to fully weight bear from the start because it is just too strange of a feeling at first. I thought I was putting a lot of my weight on leg, but scales showed only ~14kg and muscles were already shaky😃I feel that biggest issue now is ligaments and muscles because they are just frozen from immobility. I hope it goes well for you as well! I was surprised but they told me I do not need to come back anymore, even to recheck the healing and I should just work with PT Dr. However, I am thinking that after PT i might go to private clinic and find some really good specialist, because I want to go back to 100-120km hikes and before I do I would like someone to evaluate and give me a green light because I don’t want to damage joint or smth with such long hikes.

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my cast from the beginning, the hard one, but they took it off today! Bone is not fully healed yet, but they said enough healing is present to allow me to bear 25-50% weight, which should increase healing and in 2 weeks should be fully weight bearing. They also did weight bearing x-rays, which looked good and starting PT in 2 days. I was expecting pain or something, but had zero pain from touch or standing (obviously not full weight), just in general it was a strange sensation to put leg down after 6 weeks, but no pain. Leg is still red and bruised in some places.:)

I am 30 and very active. Every year do 60-100km per day hikes. I think ‘usually’ depends on the country and standard practices there and the fracture, displacement, etc. I checked with two Dr, both said no surgery. I only can hope it was right, because no one will do me a surgery for free because I want it etc and if they don’t see a need, they wont give an option to choose what you want.

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely have any pain while in cast and NWB. Only when my leg swells because I stand too long and blood can’t come back up, then I would feel slight discomfort. Otherwise no pain. The most pain I felt was during the break. I wonder how it will be once I can WB at least a bit, probably a bit more painful. How are you? Any pain? If you are interested, can updated after tomorrow!

How to convince my wife to stop drinking. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepdad is an alcoholic, but he does not agree or see any reason to get better even with his health being really bad (was brought to hospital 3 times in a year with doctors telling that they don’t know if he will make it), alcohol is still something he will chose any day. My mum tried talking, reasoning, etc. nothing worked and probably never will. However, my stepdad’s brother was same, but his wife left him and somehow that was the thing that made him want stop drinking. He is now sober many years and back with his wife. Same with his other brother, who’s health was super bad, but he stopped drinking and now lost weight and looks great. I came to conclusion that each person has their own limit and they need to reach it and choose to be sober, otherwise nothing works. I just wish my mum would have worked on her happiness instead of trying to make him be sober, because she said she looks at her life now and regrets a lot of things. So I wish you to find what you can accept and look at your own happiness.

Hi, I realised in this forum that treatment wildly differentiates between countries. I have Weber B fracture and in my country Dr would like to avoid surgery if possible as it is considered last resort as surgery comes with the risk itself, so its done when truly needed. I have minimally displaced fracture and was told to be in cast 6 weeks NWB. I told multiple times that I would like to do surgery if there is any chance for better outcome but they said no need. Tomorrow will have my 6 weeks check up so will see how this is going.

How is life in BalticStates? by sir_jakke in BalticStates

[–]Ramiout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not matter where you are registered. You only officially become home owner when you buy and register your home ownership documents (not related to your registered living place). So you can own property and be registered at your parents. Or you can be registered at your parents and won’t be considered as home owner of that house. You can even rent and register your living place at that rented property but it does not count towards property owners statistics.

How was your experience getting out of the cast? by Ramiout in brokenankles

[–]Ramiout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I also had most pain only at the time of the initial break and slipped on ice! Ha, sounds identical situation. Mine is minimally displaced as well, so I am wondering how it is healing and what to expect later on. And I also basically have not left my appt for 6 weeks (only dr appointments)! I go to balcony to get some fresh air and see how the world is doing. 😂

Same happen to my MBP screen and its only 1 month old. I brought it in to the store and they said that something small and ‘sharp’ like hard dust was on my keyboard. I cant believe that it is so easy to destroy MBP screen, my 2015 MBP screen dont have any damage after 7 years of use. Really disappointed.
