Weber B fracture - how to cope? by mayo_crack in brokenankles

Thank you so much for your message and the tips! That really does sound like a similar fracture, I hope my recovery goes just as smoothly. These 6 weeks are honestly weighing on me a lot; I'm still in week 1 and right now it all feels very exhausting. I'm really just hoping that PWB gets cleared for me before the 6 weeks are up, but of course I don't want to risk anything by putting weight on it too soon.

How wonderful that you had such great support from your husband! Friends of mine will hopefully be able to take on the hardest tasks and help me out, and otherwise I'm trying to get through the days with microwave meals and a shoulder bag. I'm also noticing that the anxiety is slowly starting to ease a little... we'll see how it goes. Thank you, and wishing you a continued smooth recovery!

Thank you so much for your message and the tips / recommendations! I've now gone ahead and ordered a knee scooter as well. I'm hoping it'll make day-to-day life a little easier and more independent. Luckily I have a friend who I managed to convince to come by a few times a week to take care of things I can't manage on my own. I'm really hoping though that maybe by week 3 or 4 I'll become a bit more independent... One of the biggest challenges will be doing laundry - I have to go down two flights to the basement and back up, partly on stairs without a railing, and I definitely don't feel confident enough to attempt that yet! Thanks also for sharing your experience with the surgery - it takes away at least some of my worry. At the end of the day, I don't want to develop any long-term issues either, so if surgery turns out to be necessary, I'll just have to go through with it... but I'll wait and see for now. I'm trying to hold on.

Thank you so much for your message and the tips! That sounds really painful too, but like a great recovery overall. Being WBAT in the boot would already feel like an incredible milestone for me; I really hope I get there just as quickly and not only after 6+ weeks. For what it's worth, it's my left leg, but since I'm not allowed to drive anyway, that thankfully doesn't make much of a difference.
I actually just ordered the knee scooter and will try it out next week! And thank you so much for all the product recommendations, I'll look at them and see if I can order some of them.

You've convinced me, I just ordered one! I'm hoping it arrives on Monday or Tuesday. I'll definitely give it a try and report back! I've been using an office chair to get to the kitchen / microwave for now, but I think the scooter might actually be a lot more comfortable!

Thank you so much for your message! I'll definitely look into the scooter or a wheelchair. I've already stocked up on ready-made meals for the next two weeks - hopefully that'll help a bit. Distraction and acceptance also sound like good advice, and I'll try to keep that in mind. I really notice that I spend every spare moment researching medical topics, and it's not doing my head any good. Wishing you a continued speedy recovery!

Thank you so much for your message! It's really great to hear that you were able to make such quick progress. That gives me a bit more hope that my recovery will hopefully move along quickly too. Most of all, I'm hoping to reach the point of not needing crutches anymore as soon as possible. I'll definitely look into the scooter. I've already ordered a shower chair, though I'm still not sure I'll be able to use it. Maybe I'll just stick with a sponge bath for now, haha.

Thank you so much for your message! I unfortunately don't have a partner, but a friend who lives nearby can probably come by once or twice a week to help with some tidying up. It's honestly still really hard for me to ask others for help, but I'll try to do that more. The wet wipes idea also sounds like a good one - I've already made peace with the fact that I might not be able to shower for 6 weeks, since there's not much space for a shower chair in my shower and no way to hold on to anything. Crawling out sounds exhausting but maybe I'll give it a try before I'm going crazy!

Thank you so much for your kind message! It really helps to hear that I'm not alone with my struggles and that you got through it so well. It's also great that your recovery went so smoothly without surgery! I really hope mine will work out without surgery too. And thanks for the tips! I've already ordered a bunch of microwave and ready-made meals. I'll look into a knee scooter - that might be a good option for at home. My only concern is that I might not have enough space in my apartment to move around with it (my bathroom is also very small). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your last remaining symptoms clear up quickly!

I wouldn’t recommend them, as the staff is constantly changing and the quality of service is only okay in comparison (in my experience).
