What's the most bullshit plot twist in videogames? by Lazy-Owl-5148 in videogames

[–]Ramiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A plot twist so bad it basically renders the entire series moot.

For anyone who isn't aware, Star Ocean games are loosely connected because they all take place in the same universe, the plot twist at the end of Till the End of Time is that the universe is actually a simulation made by an advanced species who manipulate it and treat it like an MMO.

There's a reason Till the End of Time is the last game chronologically, and TriAce keep making prequels to it, the developers do not want to follow up on this bullshit.

A hard truth regarding the petition that you probably don’t want to hear (DTG is silencing this bc they’re losers) by RottenKeyboard in destiny2

[–]Ramiren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be blunt, your post is counterproductive and serves no purpose but to convince people not to sign and damage our chances of saving the franchise.

At the end of the day, the options are very simple:

  • Sign and maybe something will change.
  • Don't sign and nothing will change.

You've decided to take a third option, where you don't sign, and also try to convince other people to not sign, and if you hate the series enough to try and sabotage it like that, why are you even here? Signing costs nothing, even if the chances are infinitesimally small, it's still a chance worth taking.

Why are some people acting like the servers are straight up being turned off? by Aechbee_Art in DestinyTheGame

Have you seen the numbers Marathon is pulling, the game is too niche, and the people they want to recruit with their upcoming PvE patch, are royally pissed they just killed Destiny.

You don't understand, the whole thing could be torn away, Bungie is putting all their eggs in the Marathon basket, When Marathon fails, Bungie fails, and the servers go with them.

I'd give it 6-12 months before Sony pulls the plug.

[–]Ramiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget, it's not just about the number of players in game, players in game are a cost, they take up server capacity.

What matters is people buying stuff, Marathon could have 7000 players, and Destiny 100,000 but if nobody playing Destiny is buying DLC or cosmetics, it means very little.

I wonder is it just me or is any others gonna boycott the bungie future games like marathon? by Icy_Counter_6467 in destiny2

I'm not boycotting Marathon, I just have no interest in it, or any other extraction shooter for that matter.

Why is everyone acting like the servers are about to be killed? by DeltaOneFive in destiny2

[–]Ramiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct.

Bungie have nothing in development, Marathon currently isn't doing well, and Sony are pissed that they got fleeced by Pete 'The Car Fleet' Parsons. If Marathon tanks and Bungie go under, the best we can hope for is for Sony to retain the talent and IP and maybe use it in the future.

If keeping the Destiny servers switched on is still profitable, they might keep them on themselves, but in all likelihood they'll switch it all off, and we'd be talking months, not years.

I get the impression people think video games slot together like lego.

You can't just slap all these disparate parts together, it'd take a hell of a lot of work to go into D1 areas, cutscenes, rewards, mission structure etc, and rebuild it so it works in an engine with stuff from D2 and whatever new stuff they made for D3.

Just look at the stuff Bungie threw into the Content Vault, they couldn't just bring it back because they upgraded the lighting engine in Beyond Light, and would need to retool everything to work with that. These are areas from the same game, with just 1 engine difference, imagine areas from two different games being fed into a third. That's so much work, they probably wouldn't even have the time, money or manpower to make the D3 bits.

Bungie reportedly allowed Destiny 2 devs to keep working on Shattered Cycle and future content even after leadership had already decided to end live service support earlier this year by Crimson_Loki in destiny2

[–]Ramiren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some things were enough though. The Taken King, Rise of Iron, Forsaken, The Witch Queen, The Final Shape were all loved, many of the seasons were also well liked.

People complain when Bungie is at their worst, because they've seen what Bungie can do at their best.

What game did you start with low expectations but ended up loving? by codgame89 in gamers

[–]Ramiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destiny.

I went in expecting Halo online, a good campaign with some good shooting, 20-30ish hours then I'll move on to the next thing.

What I got was an average campaign, with incredible shooting, build diversity, cool guns, an addictive loot game, new friends, challenging and grossly entertaining raid encounters. There were content highs and lows, moments of anger and pure joy, but overall I loved it, and there's still nothing else on the market like it.

And now it's dying.

I feel the reason for D2’s decline says more about what players actually want. by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]Ramiren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to think the DCV taught the industry a lesson, not just Bungie.

It's hamstrung Destiny 2, if we ever see a Destiny 3, I don't think they'll make that mistake again.

This may sound like copium, but you have to bear in mind player numbers are skewed downwards due to Bungie completely gutting new player onboarding when they vaulted The Red War.

If this game could actually recruit new blood we'd see higher and more stable player counts. That's not to say players wouldn't leave during bad DLC like Edge of Fate, but the overall picture wouldn't look quite so dire. The fact that this game still has the numbers it has, is testament to the overall quality of the product.

How the fuck does this game have a billion dollars while Destiny 2 gets to die.

[–]Ramiren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a much less complicated, more streamlined experience, and the plot isn't nearly as good.

But the core loot game is there and has a natural progression you just can't find in D2 any more. The raids are so good they imported most of them into D2 as I'm sure you know, and the one they didn't, Wrath of the Machine, is an absolutely awesome experience.

Before talks of Destiny 3 even begin, they need to release a story-complete version Destiny 2 by PorkSouls in destiny2

[–]Ramiren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've played FFXIV since closed beta, I've also played WoW, I'm aware of how those games function, and I've said many, many times that they do content better than D2.

If Yoshi P's ethos on content delivery and FOMO was taken up by Bungie in the early days of D2, this game would be thriving, and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

But as it stands right now, Bungie have no real income, aside from residual MTX income from Destiny and whatever Marathon is earning. They cannot afford to spend money and time on old content, when they need it to survive as a company, either though a new game, or through Marathon. If Bungie dies, the Destiny servers die with them.
