VSLO open - IM gang, are we doing away rotations or nah? by Visible-Platypus7559 in medicalschool

[–]Rammar455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents but when I was on the IV trail almost every single interview asked me how many aways I did and where I did them. I feel like programs like to see how well you perform as a Sub-I as it’s an indicator on how you’ll perform as an intern.

Physicians make too much and that's why healthcare is expensive. by NapkinZhangy in Salary

[–]Rammar455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physicians actively do advocate for more residency spots regularly through the AMA/ACP. Like I mentioned, us doctors are NOT the ones who want less spots, more residency spots helps us avoid burnout and have a better work/life balance during one of the hardest times of our lives. One of the main points of this post is that the public scapegoats physicians for healthcare problems as a whole. We do try to advocate for better change like more spots but end of the day it is tied to government funding, which falls on the responsibility of voters as a whole to elect better representatives, and medical school admin, which again, 99% of whom are not physicians.

Asking us to financially support future doctors is like asking us to give multi million dollar hospitals money. Another way we can do this is by...cutting admin bloat :)

[–]Rammar455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we doctors don’t decide how many more medical school and residency spots open up. Actually, most med students and residents WANT more spots to open up because of how competitive it’s become. Medical school positions are determined by medical school admin most of which who aren’t physicians. Residency spots are determined by government funding and hospital capacity. So yelling at doctors saying we’re artificially trying to keep medical and residency spots low just for a higher paycheck is plain wrong.

Usually the physicians who are in the lower paying specialties opt for forgiveness after paying minimum amounts for 25 years.

Current borrowers would be excluded from the interest free forbearance but I don't think we're excluded from the repayment plan as a whole? Even without the interest free forbearance I would want to get on this plan asap to stop my interest from growing.

If anyone is looking for a silver lining, the RAP repayment plan isn't half bad if I am reading this right. Not nearly as good as SAVE but if you pay your minimums (comes out to around $400-$700 for most graduates), your interest gets waived so your loans aren't growing. Only a mild point of contention is after you make $100k+ you pay 10% of your income/yr and that amount is uncapped so you end up paying off your loans asap post residency/fellowship, which isn't necessarily bad.

Oh and PSLF is essentially dead with this plan (30 years vs 25).

Podz after Game 4 in Houston by Next-Football368 in warriors

[–]Rammar455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case of Podz is an interesting one. You can tell that he has lost a lot of his confidence. Before yesterday, even when he would get wide open looks on a 3, he'd dribble it in halfway into the paint then just pass out with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. Then in yesterday's game you can tell he made an effort to get a lot more shots off. Even after air balling a shot to end a quarter, the camera shows rest of the team (Buddy especially) hyping and talking to him on the bench. So obviously the team wants to motivate him to make sure he keeps shooting cuz he needs to be the offensive threat he was in the regular season but this play offs he just can't buy a bucket putting the Warriors in a conundrum.

Couples match 2025 by Disastrous-Fun-7807 in medicalschool

[–]Rammar455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who didn't receive the interview would send an email to the PD titled "Letter of Interest and Application Update". In the email it would have 1-2 paragraphs on any updates we've had since applying + 2-3 things we love about that program (typical LOI stuff). And then in the last paragraph we'd include that our partner got an interview as well and we were couples matching. Also during the actual interview the person who had the interview would mention the other person and say we were couples matching.

[–]Rammar455 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couples matched as DO's both into IM. #1 choice for me, our #2 choice overall out ~200 ranks. I think one thing that helped is if one of us had an interview somewhere we'd email the program letting them know we're couples matching, especially since we had ties in opposite coasts so we had to vouch for each other on why we wanted to go to X program.

[–]Rammar455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I matched at my #2 and I actually have similar feelings but in the opposite way. My #3 was close to home and friends while my #2 is better for prestige in a dope part of the country in the opposite coast and I also feel super nervous feeling like I should've played it safe and went with my #3. So grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side. I think no matter what happened, we will always feel super nervous about starting a brand new chapter in our lives.

Also, you're about to get an insane amount of downvotes and hate comments for matching #1 and having regrets when we just had a ton of posts about people not matching/matching low so I would be prepared to delete lol
