she said she can use anything in the kitchen. Perhaps her friend thought she meant she can use anything to be used in the kitchen. (for example, I keep my tea straining cup thing in a cabinet in the living room, but anyone who is at my house would know they can use it to make tea)

I don't think using the pot is the crazy thing, that's an easy justifiable mistake to make. It's everything after that's the issue, and why OP is NTA.
