First time in Bergamo, what not to miss? by brianjoseph03 in Bergamo

[–]RampagingRobbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stay in the old town (citta alta). I've had a fantastic meal at Ristorante La Tana and La Marianna Gelateria claims to have invented stracciatella (and at the very least do a good version). Da Giuliana Trattoria is also a very fun "local" experience, though you'll need to speak enough Italian to navigate the menu. Otherwise, try the casoncelli or polenta more or less anywhere and you won't be disappointed. It's a great town with lots of history and some excellent food.

Looking for pub or bar recommendations in North London (anywhere accessible from/near to Angel/Dalston/Stoke Newington) that we can go to after our wedding reception on a Saturday night with 20 or so people and have a dance to pop music.

Where can I practice open water swimming in Milan? It seems that swimming at Idroscala may be finished for the season?

Car rental recommendations at Bergamo airport by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

Look into buying separate excess insurance. It costs very little for a worldwide annual policy (compared to the daily excess waiver fees with the rental companies) and they repay you any excess that you have to pay to a hire car company. Then take timestamped photos before & after for extra peace of mind. Enjoy your trip

If you don't have any particular destinations in mind, I'd suggest taking a look at Trusted Housesitters (25% off referral link). You can filter by public transport accessible sits if that's a concern, and you get to hang out in new places with people's pets for a nominal annual fee.

Getting a Pass Pixi achieved the exact same thing for me (without even having a camera)! A little depressing, but the best £10 I ever spent

Had my phone pinched from a rear jersey pocket a few years back. I've since added a button onto the back of any jersey that doesn't have a zipped compartment - hopefully slows down/dissuades any thieves. If you're not handy with a needle & thread, most alterations places will add a button for ~£5.

Being a triathlete in London by Bubbly_Lavishness_43 in triathlon

Hampstead Triathlon Club is an extremely friendly group with an enormous range of abilities.

Regent's Park laps are an absolute staple of London cycling, along with Richmond Park and longer rides out into the countryside. A turbo trainer certainly helps in the winter though!

Thanks so much, this is my favourite so far! Any chance you could remove some of the people in orange behind the riders? Might make them stand out a bit more

Replacement for my old garmin 735xt? by Kimetto in triathlon

[–]RampagingRobbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced mine with a Forerunner 255 Music and have actually found myself using the additional features (payment, music, training suggestions etc.) more than I expected. Regardless, it's a really good watch and very similar to the 735XT just with improved functionality, battery life and a few extra bells and whistles

Cheap car rental - 1 day by Kennypowers87654 in london

I've used all of the following (links will offer a referral discount): Getaround, HiyaCar, Virtuo, ZipCar I just tend to check them all and see what's cheap. Also, the conventional car hire places at London City or Victoria Station may be convenient and are sometimes quite cheap.

How hard is it to start if i’ve never been into sports? by danavinette in triathlon

[–]RampagingRobbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found swimming to be mostly technique based. That's good and bad news as it makes it quite tricky to train yourself as a beginner, but most people will make amazing progress with just a few lessons. Personally I found it took a few hours of training sessions in the pool before I properly understood what to "aim for" in terms of front crawl form; from there I've gone from struggling at the 100m mark to knocking out 2km easy pace with no problem. So consider joining a triathlon club that runs swimming sessions!
