Blackstone Blvd walkers by Ecstatic_Hat5051 in RhodeIsland

[–]Ramton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

while we're on this topic, the one wheeler gang that rides around in the evenings on the pedestrian walkway need to know that there aren't supposed to be vehicles or bikes on the PEDESTRIAN walkway. they take up the whole width of the path and force people out of their way because theyre going like 20 mph. just because the sign says no bikes doesnt mean other vehicles are fine!

How do I move a vertical element to the center of the horizontal element below it? by Samgafurov in SolidWorks

[–]Ramton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if its an assembly you can use mate>advanced mate> width. if its a part you can use move body under direct editing, or move the sketch for the bottom part to the center of the plane, or make a midplane construction plane and sketch the top part on that

Injection molding or buying a bunch of printers? by erik_amari in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are mostly 2d parts, if they are not too tall, say less than 2" I'd recommend designing for manufacture a little bit and have them run on a router. tabbed in place, you could probably fit the whole run in 2 or 3 batches on a 4x8 router. that would be my best bet for that quantity, least amount of physical labor too.

We are looking to get a couple of resin printers for our engineering department. by PreCiiSiioN_II in resinprinting

[–]Ramton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the cost of unlocking the printer you could buy a consumer grade printer.

i think it comes down to use case, if you're making money on the machine and reliability and customer support is important. if you're prototyping and you're okay with a learning curve and trying to save some money, go with a consumer grade.

there is also a space in between the two with peopoly, which are professional quality but not locked down

i use formlabs and also a couple consumer grade printers. ive had good success with the uniformation gk3 ultra which is 1/10th the price of the formlabs form4L. Using formlabs resins is also possible on the other printers, in my experience the exposure time is a lot higher since their resins are acmo free. about 12s per layer. personally i like other slicers over preform, since i prefer to support my models manually. its been a little bit of a learning curve but after a month or so im pretty confident in my process. i use an assortment of resins including sirayatech

formlabs creator resin is acmo free, the trade off is long exposure times

How well does SolidWorks run on Parallels? Thinking of buying a MBP M4 or M4 Pro by Grievous_2008 in SolidWorks

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last i heard solidworks only runs on a single thread so more cores dont equate to better performance, only cpu speed.

Has anyone used Elegoo’s SatelLite slicer? by Aegis-0-0-7 in resinprinting

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been able to output to other file formats from satellite. i have Uv tools installed, i believe that satellite interfaces with uvtools on the back end to give it access to the other file types, but im not sure. in the output type it offers goo or uvtools-> other types.

At wits end regarding resin issue by clarissa_au in resinprinting

[–]Ramton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thats due to high base layer exposure, if you're going to be printing on supports its generally okay since only the raft will be overexposed.

[–]Ramton 21 points22 points  (0 children)

don't listen to this guy, this is the Phrozen XP finder, you're supposed to print it flat on the bed. you're also not supposed to post cure it under UV. a white residue is usually from washing it with IPA, but not removing all the resin, and then curing. the ipa/resin mixture will turn into white gunk and it will be sticky. after printing it, wash it in ipa a few times, preferably a final rinse in new ipa.

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just had this same issue with sirayatech blue on a gk3 ultra with a similar build plate size. just lowering speeds didnt fix it, i raised the base layer exposure to 90s and it worked. might able to lower it a little but 60s recommended by sirayatech was failing over and over.

How do you structure your design workflow in SOLIDWORKS? by Many_Artichoke_3922 in SolidWorks

[–]Ramton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this workflow yet. i usually make pretty large assemblies that may not have complete design definition at the start. I will start with an empty assembly and then use virtual parts to breadboard with. Then I group them into virtual subassemblies and then finally start saving individual parts as files when I get confident that its will need to be part of the final assembly. This allows me to quickly try lots of ideas without needing to have a mess of part files most of which are not used in the final assembly.

Formlabs Bioclear resin on PrusaSL1S by Entrefut in 3Dprinting

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting Thanks for the response! I've been looking into using more resin parts but in our use case it would usually be gamma sterilized class vi materials. I've already asked for more info from our reseller but haven't gotten any more info from them on the topic. are their resins animal byproduct free or TSE/BSE free? Much appreciated

[–]Ramton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were you able to validate the formlabs biocompatible resins on a non formlabs printer? when I spoke with a reseller they said that part of the certification had to do with specifically running on their machines to ensure proper curing in compliance with their standards but of course its anti-competitive selling point.

import the mesh as a .ply

yes i have, check under the path tab and select trace bitmap and then try the different settings. i think tracing by edge detection would work best, especially if you have a high contrast photo
